We've been down this road a couple of times before, so don't be disheartened if you don't get alot of participation, mate.  ;)

I like Battle of Britian (probably my favourite)
Aces High was good
Recently saw a Csech job called "Dark Blue World". It was subtitled but I liked it.
One of the old classics that I like is 12 O'clock High
Oh yeah, and Memphis Belle was good too.

;D ;D ;)

Memphis Belle was a great flick, although I like the version with Kevin Costner in it (the Disney version is just crap!).

Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines was also excellent.  They built and flew their own airplanes specifically for the film.  A couple are now on display in the Simithsonian.

I'll go along with that. :D

Memphis Belle was a great flick, although I like the version with Kevin Costner in it (the Disney version is just crap!).

Ender. I only know of 2 films named Memphis Belle. The original documentary "The Memphis Belle: A Story of a Flying Fortress" released in 1944. Some of the action footage was filmed personally by Hollywood director William Wyler who went along on the "Belle's" last mission. The 1990 feature film "Memphis Belle" was loosely based on it & co-produced by David Putnam & Catherine Wyler (William's daughter). It was distributed by Warner & starred mainly unknown actors. I don't remember Kevin Costner being involved or a Disney version. http://entertainment.msn.com/movies/movie.aspx?mp=c&m=33538

I've seen most films with even a remote link to aviation over more than 50 years. Many excellent British films would probably not be familiar in other countries. I can't remember them all or list one that qualifies as my favourite.

PS. On giving this some thought the 2 films that have most impressed me over the years would be "The Dam Busters" (1954) & "Reach for the Sky" (1956).

Hagar  I do not think I have ever seen "Reach for the Sky" could you give a brief synopsis.  If you liked "Damn Busters", I know you have good taste in films, so would like to see "Reach for the Sky" if I have not already. There are so many films I have seen but never knew ,or can't remember their titles.

                Fido  :)

P.S. How about "Strategic Air Command"?

Hagar  Maybe you can help with this. There was a movie base loosely, I think, on the Comet metal fatuge prob of the early jet age. Although, if I remember correctly the Comet was never mentioned, James Stewart played the lead.  I realize this is a very sketchy descripton, it's been years, but just thought you might remember.

Fido. I don't remember the one you describe. I would think anything concerning the Comet would have been made by a British company starring British actors. I know that at one time many famous Hollywood stars had an arrangement with British film companies as part of their contract. The only film on a similar subject that comes to mind was based on a novel by Neville Shute Norway. He was an aircraft designer as well as author & used the pen-name Neville Shute. I forget the title but this was written before the Comet disasters.

PS. The title was No Highway by Neville Shute (1948 ) Filmed as No Highway In The Sky - 1951 ) The film was made in the UK starring James Stewart. I always assumed it was loosely based on the Avro Tudor, the first British airliner with a pressurised passenger cabin. The Tudor 4 was grounded after 2 were lost in mysterious circumstances in 1948, much like the later Comet disasters.
