Could We Build

This may not be the place to post this, but here is where the people are.  I broached the question of whether or not a Simviation Museum would be a possibility with Pete, he pointed out (and rightfully so) that by my own admission,  I could not contribute much more than the seed of an idea.  Maybe those of you who like this idea, and are willing, with your time and talents, might create a large hanger-like building or buildings, into which we could place static versions of our favorite aircraft, chosen by a vote of the SimV community, from within the download pages of  Simviation.  There could be a place for Civil & Military aircraft, both past and present. There might even be runways, so we could fly there.  I would be happy to give of my time to help in any way, other than artistically.(I can't draw a straight line with a ruler)  Maybe, if  there is a desire, discussion, and an agreement, for such an add-on, it could find a place here at Simviation to be worked out.  If you have any thoughts on this, both positive or negative feel free to PM me.  I maybe slow in responding to your PMs, I am on dial-up with a family who also needs to use the phone, but I will respond.  Thanks for taking the time to read this rather long post.

                                            Fido   :)

It's certainly a novel idea. I assume you mean something like the CFS Squad bases or FS VA airports with approved aircraft. I think the appeal would be limited to those already involved in that sort of thing. It woudn't interest me personally.

Creating the airfield would be no problem & there are members here who could do it if they were interested. The location might be a problem. The aircraft would be a different proposition as everyone has their own favourites.

Hagar  Jared   Thanks for your imput.  Hagar has a good idea, creating a CFS type of facillity, and he may be right about location problems. The reason I started this thread was to see if there was intrest, and to discover what the problems might be. Hagar has pointed out a few already, Thanks. :)   Jared, If it were up to me, I personally would love to see both the Wright Flyer and Boeing B-29 included, as you could nodoubt guess, I would also like to see the Spitfire, and Consolidated B-24 close by.   What if we could provide a link to the downloads of working versions of the static birds?

One thing you should realise. Static scenery objects, particularly static aircraft, tend to be graphics intensive. These can only be converted from reasonably basic designs. I find that FS98 models work best as static scenery objects although not all will convert. This would mean finding suitable FS98 versions of each particular aircraft. Also getting permission from the authors to use them.

I think the best method would be to make these "static" aircraft AI Traffic. This makes the whole thing more complex. Although you could use the latest aircraft, not all are suitable as AI traffic. This would also depend on the sim. It wouldn't be possible in FS2004 until the new AFCAD is released. For it to be practical everyone would need the basic aircraft. You would end up with something like the PAI project.

Hagar  Please remember, I'm new around here, so could you please explain or give link to the PAI project.  Thanks for you insight, especially since you are not that interested over all.  As a matter of fact you've posted more than anyone. :D  I only hope more people show as little intrest as you. ;D ;D  Thanks again.

Fido. Please don't think I'm trying to put a damper on this. Not being blessed with much in the way of imagination myself I like to encourage anyone with that talent. I'm pointing out the snags as I see it. others might have different ideas.

Project AI is a clever way of adding AI Traffic to FS2002 for those without the necessary skill or experience to do it themselves. A group of talented developers created a series of special AI Only drones & traffic tracks to go with them. I've not tried it myself but understand that installation is a piece of cake with the included installer.

Hagar, dampen all you like :), everything helps. As for imagination, I have but a little, as for talent, lets just say I have more imagination. :-[  I am writting down all suggestions and links you guys post.  I am looking into what it takes to design scenery, but do not hold out much hope. I know there are those who are much better now, than I will ever be.  Even if this idea falls flat on it's preverbial face, I will have learned alot in just putting forth the idea.  Keep up the good work.

        Thanks           Fido  :D

OK Fido. I think you could do a lot worse than try the latest FSSC here. http://fssc.avsim.net/
I'm not sure which sim we're discussing here but it includes a tute & basic sample airports for FS2002. These should also be compatible with FS2004.

I think it's a nice idea Fido pal, but I'm sure it would be difficult to do. However, Hagar's tips are the best so if you follow what he says you never know.

You mean you want to build like a Virtual Simviation Base?

Sounds like a good idea, although the bit about having it full of aircraft models could really kill your frame rates.

What an awesome idea!  Could we have a section for VA liveries?  lol

The AI Aardvark aircraft are low frame killers, and might be a good addition if you're concerned about frames.

i think that every member (just the ones from the "we're simv"-pic) should choose his/her favourite plane for the display.

as for the place ,i suggest iceland: plenty of water, politically neutral, nice landscape, much room.
