Hats off ...

Postby ysteinbuch » Wed Sep 10, 2003 11:59 am

Greetings, folks!

I've recently begun a collection of airline pilot visor caps. So far I have caps from Eastern Airlines, TWA, Aeroflot and Ansett. When I attended an airline memorabilia show in Newark, N.J., a few days ago, I was surprised to see an Eastern cap badge on sale for $320! I paid far, far less for an Eastern mint-in-box cap with the badge. Does anyone here also collect such caps? If so, where do you buy them? eBay? Collectible Web sites? Etc. ...

Thanks.

Ya know, I don't collect the caps, but I've been thinking for quite some time about getting into the airline memorabilia community by starting a collection myself.  Perhaps I'll do just that.  Thanks for the inspiration, and leave the good stuff for me!
Great edit, Bob.

My advice is to keep everything from your flights -- tickets, brochures, barf bags (yes, even barf bags, they are in demand!), etc. airline-issue postcards are also sought after. it's quite a niche. Obviously, items from defunct airlines are more valuable.

Would you believe that while I was working for Continental, I had no idea this market even existed?  Seriously, I could have retired by now with all the crap I had access to!  LOL

Speaking of Ansett,they auctioned off a lot of stuff. Among the listed items were some pilots' seats. We laughed at the time when someone suggested I could set one up here in front of the screen and pretend to be a 'real' pilot. There were caps and jackets listed as well.

Didn't go to the auction,wish I had now ::)

One of the things which I consider very valuable from the Airline industry, and I make use of very regularily is the medium which they utilize to operate their carriers in....... ;).........without which, they would only be a trucking company !
............in fact, I'm thinking of starting up a collection of air to be of great value at a later time in my life.......... ::)
