Just wondering some things about these two aircraft.  I figured you guys like ozzy and Hawker would know them.  I want to know how many kills each plane got.  Doesn't have to be persice.

Lots and lots ;D.

The Hurricane was credited with approximately 80% of the BoB kills (1440 of 1800).  The Spitfire got most of the rest.  I am not sure that there are figures out there for the whole war but remember that the Hurricane was put into a ground attack role whereas the Spitfire remained in an air superiority role.

Will.

PS the Hurricane was better..... (We haven't had this argument on here for at least 8 hours lol.)

The Hurricane was the highest scoring aircraft of WWII so that should give you a good idea of how well it did.

P.s. I prefer the Hurricane also.

I seam to remember that the last time we had this argument, sorry discussion, that it turned out that the highest scoring plane of WW2 was the P-38.

Really?  I know that all the highest scoring American aces flew P-38s but I don't think any other country flew the 38.  You'd think it would be a toss up between the Hurri and Bf-109.  We know the Hurricane shot down about 1440 (Thanks again Will!) but the 109 was in combat longer, faced poor planes in comparision, and was flown by the highest scroing ace of all time.  That German fellow who's name I can't remember, but he shot down something like 357 planes!  The Bf-109 was flown in combat for nearly six years, the Hurri for about five and the 38 for about four.   ???

I would agree with you both here where the P-38 is concerned. I didn't think it was the top scorer especially when you consider it didn't do too well in the European theater, but I think it was brensec who saw a docco about the P-38 that claimed it was "Top Dog". My money is still on the Spitfire if only because it was around in great numbers in all theaters and in the air to air roll from 1939 untill 1945 whilst the Hurricane changed jobs in 1941.
The 109 must be well up the table but so must be the P-51.
Just out of interest, I believe that the last air to air kill of WW2 was made by a pair of British Pacific Fleet Seafire L MkIII c's against a couple of Zeros on the very last day of WW2.

352, Erich Hartmann is the name your looking for. But in the defense of the American AND the British Aces, it was against a bunch of under-trained Russian's flying recycled tin cans.

Don't seem to get too many Yak or Mig fanatics around here........... :P

After all, it's not what's being said that's important, it's HOW it's being said...

Hey now, the Yak-9 and MiG-3 are very beautiful airplanes!   ;D  The only really inferior Russian figther was the I-15, the I-16 was a very good fighter.   ;D  As for the P-38, I believe Dick Bong was the highest scoring American ace with 40 some odd kills.  He flew a P-38 in the Pacific.  But I still believe that the P-47 is the best fighter of all time.   ;D ;D ;D  Just my opinion.
