this day started for me at 7:30am, the thermometer read 85.6* (i have a digital one) come 9:30 when i go for my morning run its just topping 87* i am barely able to make a mile and since i didnt take water i didnt risk a second. throughout the day it has risen to 92* and it is now still 87* can someone explain what has happend?? there are supposed to be thunderstorms tonight which are desperatly needed, i love the hot weather but without aircon to keep you cool at night its just unbearable.
so who else has been dealing with a heatwave?

We had a heat wave about a week ago. It was getting so hot, with the humidity it was 37C or about 100F. That's the problem with Ontario, it's either very hot or very cold. Well it's a welcome change from winter's daytime highs of -20C. One of the coldest in years.

It's awfully hot here in Nottingham also. Temp. on my car dashboard reads 28! It's not forcast rain here till tomorrow.
Yesterday Pamela and I shifted a load of hard core (bricks and heavy rubbish from the garden) to the tip and I must have lost ten stone in weight!
I cycled this afternoon (got Tour De France feaver and am determined to become the local Lance Armstrong) but gave up after 12 miles and got Pam to fetch me home.
Should't knock the hot weather though, because it never lasts and I can almost assure you it will turn into normal British weather (wet and cold) in two weeks time because we are going camping and that always brings the rain.

The old song "Mad dogs & Englishmen go out in the midday sun" comes to mind. http://www.esl-lounge.com/songs/songmaddogs.html
This applies to anyone daft enough to do unnecessary physical excercise in a heatwave. IMHO  ;D

You can rely on my countrymen to complain, even about the beautiful weather. Enjoy the good weather while you can. These things go in cycles & it's nothing unusual. I expect you guys are too young to remember the heatwave in 1976. http://www.halifaxtoday.co.uk/ftpinc/millennium/default.asp?pYear=1976
Now that was hot, for this country anyway. ;)

During the summer here its a pretty consistent 38-44'C.
You do get used to it eventually. I imagine the humidity is quite bad in Britain though.
Here its absolutely awful.

Ozzy :P

i love the heat during the day its great, its only at night where it becomes a problem. air conditioning isnt installed in the house and like ozzy said humidity is awful so sleeping is difficult,
i personally find exercise in the heat the best way to go about it, it builds up endurance alot better.
i managed to get out on a mile run in 100* heat in the US a few years back that was great. i have found that between 80 and 90 its bad but above 90 it seems to become a little more bearable??? odd really.:)

I'm with Fozzer on this one. Exercise is all very well in moderation but there's such a thing as overdoing it. Just thinking about all this running in this heat wears me out. LOL

We had our heat wave two weeks ago here......we had water in the pool in the back at 86F  :o.....bar of soap Wendy ?  ??? .....well, now its cooled and the water is barely 70F and that suits me just fine as the air is bareable and its nice to take a sweater when we take an evening walk by the river  ;)......after 10 that is when it finally starts to get dark........ 8)

It's amazing what we can get used to. I remember riding my M/c to work with a jacket on because it was cold. It was 39C(summer NW Australia)

Now I have to put up with cheeky Scottish imports wearing shorts and singlets to work while I'm freezing 0C(winter SW Australia) ::) ;D

Yeah, it's too warm here in Scotland... ::)...in fact, it's warmer here than it weas in when I was in Florida two weeks ago! :o

I did a seven mile run in the heat on Sunday!  Took me 50 minutes...that wasn't bad considering I hadn't ran for a month and it was so damn hot.  My last time before that was 47 minutes, so it wasn't a disaster, but it was uncomfortable.

Anyway...it's good for a change, isn't it?  It's lovely in the evenings, though. ;)
