I'd like to get some sounds for aircraft.  Seemingly simple matter to download some from wherever, but so few files are available that are of good quality, much less tailor to a specific plane.  The next solution would be to record some myself, this is of course a more complicated task, for the obvious lack of operational World War II aircraft around.  However another obstacle I've been thinking about, is would an organisation like the CAF even let me record their aircraft?  Although it's understandable if they wouldn't, last thing they need is some kid screwing up their already hard to maintain aircraft.  This doesn't look good. :-/ Is it possible?

Tricky, your best bet is to try contacting any individuals or organisations in person (by telephone or letter), and explain what you are trying to do.
You'll probably find most people are more than happy to help and v.obliging indeed.

I think Mike Hambly did a lot of his original sound files from recordings he made from TV & video clips. Whatever he could get hold of. It's not always easy to get good quality recordings at air displays. Unless you're very lucky the stupid display commentator will start spouting on the PA system at just at the critical moment. Some, like the commentator at our local display, are more thoughtful & allow the spectators to enjoy the sound as well as the sight of these rare birds.

Thats why I wasn't going to bother with that, a bunch of people talking in the background doesn't come out so good in a loop.

That's what I was pondering about.  A letter seemed most fitting, since letters seem to show the person cares more than with an e-mail.  Anything more than 1/2 a mile away from my house and that's considered too far for my parents.  I'd have to 'be on business' for them to shuttle me that far away.

I think I'll go ahead and try.  But how would I actually record these sounds?  My first guess would be renting some kind of sound recording set-up.  I'm really drifting aimlessly on this subject.
