Can anyone think of any possible resons for certain websites to run slower than they did a few days ago and for others on my Fav list to come up 404 or "Page cannot be displayed"
the slow ones are mainly flight sim sites, pleaseloginagain.com, Biohaz, and sometimes simV.
Whats really confusing is that after I restart my comp the will open ???

Try cleaning out your temporary internet files. Sometimes is your settings are set to keep too many it will start to clog it.

Go to (In I.E.) Tools> Internet Options> and then in the Temporary Internet Files section click on Delete files.

Then restart I.E.

You might also want to clean out the Cookies folder. Sometimes you can pickup a nasty little one that will make funny things happen.

Or, just a good Hicolonic! (A scan disk and defrag).  ;)

Have you done ctrl+alt+del and closed everything except explorer there? That could be your problem. Then leave it over night!

I had the same prob a while ago (last year some time).

I ended up (on the advice of my computer shop man) doing a System Restore to a point before the prob started. This fixed the problem but of course it means that any programs you installed after the restore date will have to be re-installed. However, you won't lose saved files etc.

P.S. What mine was doing was - when it got to 2 or 3% of the defrag process a message came up that said something like "there has been activity on the disc, defrag will start again" and it just kept doing it over and over. Is this your problem?
P.S You have to defrag. If you don't, technically your your PC will just get slower and slower.

I've been told that some ISP's filter the sites that you can access (for some silly reason). AOL do it alot. I'm with AOL and I get the "page cannot be displayed" message alot and I asked AOL about a couple of particular sites that I constantly could not access to (not adult sites! ;D) that I could get on the PC at the office (cable connection with Australian ISP) and they told me that I cannot necessarily get access to everything on the WWW on my type of account (although I have no idea what sort of content that includes or what criteria are used).

Anyway..............good luck! ;D

What you need to do before you defrag is just what Woody said. Ctrl+alt+del and shutdown everything running but don't close explorer or systray. Also, turn off your screen saver. If you don't close all your background programs defrag will just keep restarting.

Right I finally managed a succsesful de-frag, however, it mad no noticable difference to anything and things are getting worse. It can take up to 3 mins to scroll through one page now :'(
If anyone has anymore sujestion could they E-mail me at whocares1986@hotmail.com , normally I wouldn't ask this but it takes so long for me to move through the forums.
