Ryan NYP Lost at coventry

Hi guys,
At Coventry airshow today, the Ryan NYP 'Sprit of Saint Louis' was lost in an accident. Watching it myself, it seemed to roll along the runway and rotate as usual, then at around 250-300ft it began a turn to the left. The whole crowd and surroundings seemed to turn eerily quiet, then shortly afterwards, the left wing seemed to disintergrate, causing the plane to roll left; which in turn buckled the right wing; causing the airframe to spiral to the ground.
As far as [I] know, the pilot is in a serious state in hospital, but not much else is known. The airshow did resume afterwards although i'd check www.classicairshow.co.uk to see whats happening about tomorrows' displays.

It wasnt a pleasant thing to see occur, believe you me.

I really do pray that the pilot pulls through, and that some reason is found for the failiure of the structure. The pilot had been sitting on the apron, engine running, for at least an hour or so doing checks; not an obvious thing that went wrong i guess then.

Still, great airshow. got lots of pics and video which i'll post soon.

This is a great shame. Hope the pilot is OK. I knew about the Coventry show but got the dates mixed up so I missed it. Maybe just as well I did.  :(

I'd like to see your photos of the rest of the show.

ahh lol you're not meant to pick up on that.. my mistake.

the ryan nyp.. ladies and gentlemen. As if you didnt know what it was anyway  ;)

btw, before someone picks up on it. I say "know what it WAS" in a general term, not as in it 'is' or 'is no more' after the crash. i'm not referring to the crash when i say 'was' at all.
just dont want to offend, thats all.

Sad news. :'(
The Swedish pilot, 59-year-old Pierre Hollander, was flown by air ambulance to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham, but later died from his injuries.

I posted a news article about this last night, as a friend emailed it too me.
I think our thoughts should be with his family.

Our prayers go out to Mr. Hollander's family.

Reading the other part of the story about the nut that drove the car into the perimeter fence... Were there actually explosives in the car?
