with this very diverse group of people I am sure that there are hundreds of songs that refer to aviation in one way or another.
ex...
Leaving on a jet plane-Peter, Paul, and Mary

In The Early Morning Rain- Various country artist ("out on runway number nine, big 707 set to go")

Manhattan Project- Rush ("..The pilot of Enola Gay flying out of the shock wave on the August day...")

Thats a few of the ones that I know. Song, Artist, and a line from the song

From the Boeing website: The 777 is named in a song by Dire Straits Mark's Knopfler. The song is contained on the CD, "Sailing to Philadelphia."

Cool!

there was something with a "747" in its lyrics...

"It Never Rains in Southern California". Written & recorded by Albert Hammond. 1972

"Got on board a westbound seven ..... forty seven
Didn't think before deciding what to do
Ooh, that talk of opportunities, TV breaks and movies
Rang true, sure rang true.............."

Royal Guardsmen

After the turn of the century
In the clear blue skies over Germany
Came a roar and a thunder men had never heard
Like the scream and the sound of a big war bird

Here is one from my teenage years,...

Rollin'... Turnin'... Divin'....doing it again.
Rollin'... Turnin'... Divin'....
Fly......fly to live.....live to fly....do  or die......
Won't you....
Fly...Fly to live....live to fly..... ACES HIGH......
From a classic "metal" album... "Powerslave". The song is called Aces High and it a song about fighter pilots scrammbling to meet the attackers and the dogfight that ensues!!

Any body remember.......they were from the UK..Big metal band durring the 80's.

Learning to fly: Pink Floyd. ;D

Into the distance, a ribbon of black
Stretched to the point of no turning back
A flight of fancy on a windswept field
Standing alone my senses reeled
A fatal attraction holding me fast, how
Can I escape this irresistible grasp?

Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted Just an earth-bound misfit, I

Ice is forming on the tips of my wings
Unheeded warnings, I thought I thought of everything
No navigator to guide my way home
Unladened, empty and turned to stone

A soul in tension that's learning to fly
Condition grounded but determined to try
Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earth-bound misfit, I

Above the planet on a wing and a prayer,
My grubby halo, a vapour trail in the empty air,
Across the clouds I see my shadow fly
Out of the corner of my watering eye
A dream unthreatened by the morning light
Could blow this soul right through the roof of the night

There's no sensation to compare with this
Suspended animation, A state of bliss
Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earth-bound misfit, I

Quite a tough one to beat I think. ::) :P ;D

Daniel Elton John - something about Daniel's plane flying away...

Armageddon Prism - The only song I know of that has a sound bite of a ground contolled intercept as part of the song. :)

Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft Klattu/The Carpenters.  The International Song of Earth Contact Day. Do you really need more reference on this one. :)
