AH-64 down

Postby ozzy72 » Mon Mar 24, 2003 7:30 am

Unbelievably the Iraqis have managed to down a Longbow. There is no news of the pilots at the moment, although footage shows their helmets in the helicopter. I just hope they get out of Iraq safely!
Any more news I'll post something.

Apparently the pilots have been caught according to the latest news report. I hope this is wrong. I sure as hell wouldn't want to be a guest of the Iraqi Secret Police!
The only positive is that if they are shown on TV (in spite of the Geneva Convention), then their families at least know they are alive, and will come home. A small comfort, but better than nothing. :-/

Shooting down a Longbow? I don't think so, it would take more than a few cannon rounds to down it, and I think it could survive a missle hit as well. During the first day of the war an AH-64 went down because of a sandstorm, but it returned to base after it was repaired by the pilot. The Iraqis are most likely trying to use this as a ploy to show our aircraft aren't as powerful. Besides, the detection gear on the Longbow would of detected a heat source from a human body easily.

its been shown on tv as downed, and this farmer allegedly used a shotgun, but from the look of the chopper it must have been somethign like a sandstorm or other malfunction.

I just saw a video of the downed chopper on CNN. It is UNDAMAGED, it was in a feild but looked fine, no blast marks on it, but it looks like it had been through alot of sand recently. A shotgun? LMFAO, if that is not the biggest bunch of BS I HAVE EVER HEARD, I don't know what is, the farmer must of been Billy the Kid to pull that off, and all that armor? It would not have come close to anything vital. Oh man I can't stop laughing  ;)
