A few hours ago, north to Jenin an Israeli Air Force F-16 crashed due to technical issues. Fortunately the pilot managed to eject and he is now safe in one of IAF's bases.
so sad an F-16 had to go... I think it is the most beatiful fighter aircraft.
by the way... Ilan Ramon was one of the firsts in the Israeli army to fly that beast.

I am saddened to hear this. however the pilots escape is great news.
Of all the modern fighter aircraft (of which I don't know as much as I'd like) my favourite is the F16. Such beautiful lines, and capabilities.

I have the Novalogic Sim F-16 MRF and the intro movie gives some very interesting info.
Firstly, the one 29,000 lb thrust engine takes it to almost MACH 2, while it's contemporaries require 2 similar powered engines. It can carry virtually all ordinaces. The inclusion of LANTIRN makes it truely the Multi-role Fighter it is billed as.
All this for LESS than HALF the price of an F-15 Eagle.

I think it's the USAF's main frontline fighter with around 1,500 in service. The Navy only have 16 (what for I don't know). Can some one enlighten me as to why the Navy would only have 16 (or so)?  ;D ;D ;)

The Navy uses them at Top Gun as aggressor aircraft, to simulate MiG's and Su-27's. The Navy is buying more, to replace the aging fleet of A-4 and F-5 aggressors.
