Wow! Kinda strange to be discussing water chemistry questions on SimV, but OK. Total Alkalinity controls the pH. It is a buffer for the acid. If there is not enough alkalinity (well water is usually very low in alkalinity as well as pH and calcium hardness) the pH will "bounce". Once the alkalinity is in the correct range the pH readings will be much more stable. Hope this helps. :geek:
