This summers time consuming project..H ?

A wooden clock no less..
Every year come summer, I like to be out in the shed making something.
So this past summer I embarked on this long outstanding "wish-list" project, and that is to build a wooden clock from scratch.
About 4 months in the making, the wood is mainly mahogany, with the gear centres made out of plywood, in a "more or less"steering wheel pattern.

This clock has an added feature in that it recycles 12 marbles in the system, and then signals the hour on the hour by releasing said number of marbles;
One for 1 o'clock, two for 2 o'clock etc

Typical gear construction.

The escapement:

Pendulum and weight:
Centre "design" is actually where adjustment is made for time-keeping.

And a mounted view:

Initially had some "less than perfect" design problems, mainly with the time between rewinds being too short, and the face numbers. All sorted now and she runs very well. Gains about 1 minute in 18 hrs.

Anyway, I'll be happy to elaborate further if anybody wants more info.
Winter is upon us, clock is done, so its back to FS for change..

Very well done! You are a skilled craftsman. You don't see many people building clocks, most people might build a frame then go buy the clock motor. Very nice. Original design?

A timely post -- no matter when. Many fairly small, precision pieces. More than I've done with such a timepiece, other than make a new, personalized clock face. So... is your next project a 24-hour model? One warning, though... be careful if you remove it from the wall for cleaning -- it could be quite upsetting to lose all your marbles...

Thank you all for the very nice words and compliments. Much appreciated. :D

Generally, the clock is my own design, in as much as the gears, layout/construction goes, BUT the marble idea is not mine. Starting out on this project, I looked for examples and "know how", and pretty soon came across this fantastic marble clock idea.

The original marble clock design is by Clayton Boyer, and he sells plans:

(There are some fantastic versions and examples of his designs on the web..well worth searching.)

The escapement I used is a design from another clock builder, Brian Law: http://www.woodenclocks.co.uk/
And of course, loads of know how and tutorials on the web.

Once again all, thanks for the interest.
