Weather displays washed out

Probably the wrong forum for this topic but here goes...Regardless what weather I have selected the display shows a washed out image, specifically bright white with no contrast. This seems to be the case with both the boxed FSX and FSX SE, which I normally run. Picture 1, exterior view, is a good example. However, when I am in cockpit view, the image is as it should be. Any time I change from the cockpit view it becomes washed out.

Computer is an HP Pvilion dv6 with 1 TB HD and 6 Gigs of RAM. Graphics card is Raedeon HD6700M. Running Win 8.1. Other than this problem the system runs FSX very very well.

Any suggestions as to where to look would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jim

Are you using Rex or any other program that lets you set sky, clouds, or scenery textures?

Sorry, jphespe. I forgot all about this post.

I have REX Essential Plus Overdrive. I don't use it for the actual weather, but to load various textures.

Once a texture is picked and installed into FSX/Prepar3d it says there until you change it.

REX does have a number of other products out there, and this may not apply to your situation.

Run REX again and pick a different "Sky" texture. Hopefully that's the problem.

Let us know how it works out.

I will give that a try. Have to re install REX first. Will let you know how this goes. One thing still confuses me though...why is the outside view only affected? When the cockpit view is used it seems OK.

That's an interesting question.

I know that the "windshield" is am added layer, mainly for reflections, and a number of times I've removed aircraft because of that layer. Perhaps the answer lies there.

Here are a couple of undesirable sky textures that I've had with REX.

Orange sky

Purple sky

Not bad for a picture or two. But definitely not the tint for everyday flying.

Nice shots, but the sunset is a little too orange. Can't find my CD for REX but for some strange reason by changing any possible settings the problem now seems to have doisappeared. Go figure, I am still confused, probably a normal state, but at least it works. Thanks for all your help,

Regards, Jim
