Good evening...

Did some searching for OldAirmail's question about landing and taking Amphibious Floats off Unprepared Strips.

Just got Reassured by EDO that YES there are Amphibious Floats Designed to operate Off Unprepared Strips.
They did not give out much info other than the above statement.

Was hoping for a Link, Pictures or Model Number and Companies that manufacture them.

Lots of Pictures on the internet of Float Aircraft taking Off on Snow.

I did ask the question with reference to aircraft like the DeHavilland Beaver DHC-2, DeHavilland Otter DHC-3, Twin Otter, Cessna 206, 180 and 185.
These are all expensive aircraft and the Amphibious Floats for them would be quite expensive also.

While checking out EDO I came across this Link you all might be interested in... ;)

Scroll down to you see the Custom Beaver...

Here is a second Link you can check out...pick the aircraft and model such as DeHavilland of Canada DHC-3 Otter and there is a read up on the Amphibious Floats for unprepared strips...the Prices of these Floats, Amphibious Floats and Skis and the installation cost for the Otter alone is more than the cost of a Cessna 185...

If I receive any more info on this subject will be glad to post it here.

Thanks, Doug. I figured that you'd know where to get the info.

BTW - LOVED that Kenmore video. Now if I were only young, rich, and smart. :D

Good morning OldAirmail

Still searching for you for some info, just heard back from another company that manufactures Amphibious Floats, Floats and Skis for smaller aircraft like the Cessna 172, several Piper Types and larger aircraft like the Cessna Caravan.
Again, no Model Number or Pictures of Amphibious Floats that can land on Unprepared Strips but confirmation they do build them. Perhaps they are Special Orders and would probably cost much more.

Here is a Link which shows some interesting shots, the DeHavilland Beaver on Floats being used flying off Glaciers.
