My year without technology

1976: I was 28. Rented an apartment around town:

No big rent bills. ($210/month, large b-rm & living-rm)
No car repairs. (It's a piece of junk anyway, why get it fixed?)
No cell phone or computer. (Didn't have 'em back then)
No land line phone. (Too lazy to get it hooked up. Just c'mon over any time)
No email or phone messages to deal with.
No TV. (Ah, no annoying commercials, how nice)
No G.A.S. (Gear Acquisition Syndrome. Had and only needed 2 guitars: My 1954 Les Paul, and my 1976 Ruck classical)
No alarm system. (Chain the guitar cases to the bed, they'll never get 'em.)
No health insurance. (Healthy as a horse, whaddo I need health ins for?)
No doctor visits. (Like I said, healthy as a horse)
No dentist visits or teeth cleaning. (Not the best idea, but no cavities)
No job problems. (OK, I wuz teaching guitar in a music store, if we can call that a job)
No getting up early. (Music store opened 4pm)
No aches and pains. (Except some pains in the butt from some guitar students)
No girlfriend hassles. (Got my whole life ahead of me, no rush, besides, who's gonna tolerate all of the above)
No credit or debit cards. (I think I had a checking account. Paid for most in green all the time.)
No problems or hassles. Nuthin'. Not one buggable item all year. I almost forgot how to curse.

Sure miss that year. A totally uncluttered existence. The guys would drop by all the time. Had a free lunch every day at
Mom & Dad's. Didn't waste time running around getting stuff done. Nothing to get done. Clear headed all the time.

All good things end. Year after, I got a real job. Learned how to curse again real fast.

Well, at least I grabbed some gusto while it was still around.
