The 'Wall of death' riders at fairgrounds, riding through fire etc etc, kids could climb trees and roam around in the parks and countryside without a bevvy of H&S jobsworths interfering.

Nowadays, our lives are regulated by; "Supervisory Controls".... with no such things as unfortunate; "Accidents".

The "Blame Game", resulting in various forms of Litigation....

I'm always very glad that I retired (1984) before; "Health and Safety Rules and Regulations", and; "European Regulations", totally took over my trade as an Electrical Engineer!

There is simply no way to legislate against human stupidity (see Darwin Awards: http://www.darwinawards.com/) and we keep trying to find ways to make it OK to abrogate personal responsibility. I fear for the species.

I survived in good health those 1960's with no chastity belt, no explosives under the dash, no helmets nor stupid "intelligent" technology that lie about our car emissions (to charge a double zero VERY EXPEN$iVE sticker allowing circulation of new cars every day into MX city FOR TWO YEARS, BUT... since the Popo volcano is belching ashes all over the sky, the Ford DOES NOT CiRCULATE daily any more. No money refunds...& we car owners are still paying the 1968 Olimpics Tax, every year!)

Alas these days there is a lack of common sense and a lack of responsibility. So they have to have these rules to protect the idiots from their own stupidity! Personally I just remove the safety tags from things that could harm you... Darwinism will do the rest
