House cat alert

The CDC says:
"More than 60 million men, women, and children in the U.S. carry the Toxoplasma parasite, but very few have symptoms because the immune system usually keeps the parasite from causing illness."
This is something new to me. Google toxoplasmosis and educate yourself. The Wiki article is good. You'll never look at an ordinary house cat the same way again.
Even so often I see a familiar cat wandering thru my yard. No more. I'll chase them away. Fozzer's got the right idea. I like cats, but hey, let's be smart here, eh?
This whole thing came to my attention because of some Yahoo article about that guy that seriously raised the price of some drug used to treat this, but oddly enough, I didn't see that drug named in the Wiki article.
Anybody here ever hear of this before?

Quote from Wiki............."The most common threat to citizens in the United States is from eating raw or undercooked pork."
I think we are creating a problem with cats so the drug companies can profit from it.....?

Same thing with the 'flu shot. Every time there's a 'flu outbreak, they say "it's a different strain." I just think someone like Henry Kissinger foments fear and has so much power to cause whole nations to react by buying his so called snake oil inoculations. Drug companies have us by the testicles and we're too gullible to shake them off.

Good comments here. I think I'll still discourage cats from roaming my yard.
Re: drugs & medications: Many years ago, my former doctor wanted to put me on anti-cholesterol meds, or whatever they're called, said my choesterol level was slightly high, as was my blood pressure. I refused, didn't think it was necessary. That same doc had a few other bad calls on me over the years. My current doctor has done several physicals on me, never said a thing about that, and my blood pressure, as taken by him, is normal. So when it comes to doctors and drugs and meds, it pays to know as many facts as possible. Meds prices are thru the roof, as we all know, why take any unless ab-so-lute-ly necessary.

Don't go fooling around in Kitty's sandbox, and you won't expose yourself to the toxoplasmosis germ. It even says so on the side of the litter bag (or bucket). If you work out in the yard, I would be more worried about contracting tularemia (Rabbit Fever). It's been a big year for that here in CO, and it'll kill you, too.
There's no need to disparage felines... I think they're easier to contend with than dogs, and still provide both companionship and affection.
Drug companies and Healthcare? They're both in it for the $$. The only 'heroes' in the Healthcare profession are NURSES. They are the only ones who truly CARE.

Quiz - what is the most expensive ingredient in ANY medicine?
Live lawyers.
What's the best way to lower medication costs? Put the lawyers in Soylent Green.

The descendant of a pair of foxes that used to show up almost nightly is now coming around, I saw it just after dark. Very docile, it's seen me several times and knows I'm a friend. I don't approach it or feed it, but it's a good animal, so it can roam around all it wants. I've had several close encounters within the 15-20 foot range when it saw me before I saw it, and once or twice it came out about 9.30 in the morning. Hopefully it, and any roaming cats, will deal with any rats around here, I sometimes see one crawling on top of a neighbor's chain link fence.

Well, we have a family of Coyotes haunting our neighbourhood. Should hear them sometimes, quite musical they are. Worse still are the shrieks of the neighbourhood cats as they get torn to pieces as their owners succumb to the cat's constant meowing to be released into the wild open space. Some nasty cat owners have called for the local wild life officer to trap said Coyotes, however we only have 1 to cover 1000 sq. km. He says he is more concerned with stopping the Bears from stealing the neighbour's fruit off the trees right now.
