Its a funny old do, but when you think about it, countries which have a Monarch as their head of state, for some reason, seem to be stable, and their residents are generally happy with their lot!

They are only a "figurehead", and have little control on what goes on in the country, but their very presence seems to instil a mutual sense of satisfaction and well-being amongst their; "subjects"....

Interesting fact, there are 21 Commonwealth countries which have a monarch as their head of state: 16 of these are realms with Queen Elizabeth II as head of state. :clap:

I suspect the reason HM is so popular is because as a princess she served. She has not looked down on people, and a couple of my relatives have met her and sing her praises. She is a well educated and surprisingly witty lady. Long may she continue!
A couple of my favourite moments of HM at the Olympics, can't imagine any other World leader who would poke fun at themselves like she does, and enjoy it;

Yes, she has a very sharp sense of humour for a person in her position.

I remember she was being interviewed live on the BBC evening news once and the journalist who was interviewing her had her mobile start ringing, cool as a cucumber HM looks her dead in the eye and says "You should answer that, it might be someone important"

That is a deadpan delivery

Now that was quick thinking on her part, still as sharp as a tack

Nothing worse than having a mobile ring while in a conference or at a movie

Queen Elizabeth stuns bride and groom by accepting invite

John and Frances Canning didn't really expect Queen Elizabeth to come to their wedding, but when they learned she was going to be in Manchester, England, on the day of their nuptials, they sent an invitation on a whim.

She showed up.

Despite their shock, the groom had the presence of mind to bow, and the bride to curtsey as the monarch appeared and congratulated them, amateur video of the event showed.

"Basically it was a wedding gift for us," Frances Canning told CNN affiliate ITN.

The queen's husband Prince Philip also wished the couple well ...
