I think I mentioned this before, but seeing this article just now:
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/dangerous-i ... YHF4eb9d17
and being that it's tax season here in the US, and having worked in the past doing tax stuff for a CPA, and having friends that JUST DON'T KNOW THIS, I feel obligated to mention it again for the benefit of y'awl out there:
The IRS DOES NOT make phone calls or send emails to taxpayers. If they want/need to get in touch with you, you will receive a notice in the mail, and then, after confirming the number given in the notice by going online, YOU can call THEM. IRS notices are formal, I've seen some, they are NOT threatening. Well, they might say "We're gonna seize some of your assets if you don't pay up", OK, but they're not gonna call any jail time on you. And you'd be surprised how long it takes them to actually seize your assets.
Sooooo, DO NOT talk to anyone claiming to be from the IRS. They're not. It amazes me that anyone would respond to a threatening phone call without at least calling the cops about it.
Tell all your people this. Yeah, I actually spoke to two friends recently about this, they didn't know. You'd think by now with all the scams around everyone would know, but hey, I guess the mere mention of "The IRS" strikes fear in some. Be cool, the assets you save could be your own.
Now if I may be excused, gotta have a beer before my assets seize up.
