Ohhh Ohhh, this ain't gonna be good !!!

for those in the US,,,,anyway

better read this if your in the US about how the Corrupt Government is gonna change the internet

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/whats-at-stake-in-the-net-neutrality-debate/

"The Internet is at stake," Erickson says. "This is going to impact everybody's lives. The decision the FCC is making will determine what the Internet looks like going forward, and that impacts you and me and our parents and our families and our friends."

It's hard to imagine a world where your "cable company" gets to decide which websites load fastest," Erickson says. "I don't think many American consumers want to give that kind of trust to the cable industry."

The FCC is proposing a first: "Reclassifying the Internet as a public utility", like a phone company. That would ensure everyone continues to get equal access. Former FCC Chairman Robert McDowell doesn't like the idea.

*** Ya and with it will come more Local and State Taxes piled on top of the Internet bill, just like they do the Gas and Electric Bill !!!

Can ya see it, a Transportation Surcharge for the internet ????

and a Customer service user fee Tax of another 20.00 bucks

and another - because we can Tax of whatever amount they want !!!

Cities and states will be all to happy for the additional extra Tax Revenue too !!!

Those who can afford the internet will have it, and those who can't won't , its come to that now !!

their going to make having the internet so unaffordable, many will have to drop it entirely, that also means, lot less people shopping on line because they won't have access to internet anymore, they can't afford it.

and all the web sites like this who depend on user / members for support and also provide an informative service as well, they'll be lot less users that come on to sites, which in the end translates to less members and less money.

Hey, if its NOT broke - Don't Fix it, whats wrong with that !!!! leave the internet alone just the way it is !!!

Well, we watch and wait. The Internet is still very young, it's only a matter of time before it gets "fixed". It doesn't look broken to me. That's life, ain't it?

"The FCC is proposing a first: Reclassifying the Internet as a public utility, like a phone company."

Yep, like a phone company. That's an area that really needs fixing. Ever read your bill, or tried to read it? All we need are Internet charges looking like our phone bills.

"That would ensure everyone continues to get equal access."

Not sure I understand the reasoning behind this. Maybe there's no reasoning behind it. We all have equal access now, don't we? Just paying differently for different speeds. If they start tacking on taxes up the kazoo, how is that going to insure equal access? And does it really cost the phone co's more for higher speeds? I don't know, so I'm asking. Sounds like the usual marketing gimmick to me.

These days, the Internet is as necessary as everything else, perhaps even more so. Theoretically, we can do without cell phones (theoretically, now), and just keep land lines. I carry a cell onboard while driving only for emergencies. But the Internet gives us power: We can communicate quickly by email, buy stuff online that would take hours to track down in stores, etc etc.

The phone industry is complex with all its different stuff out there. The Internet per se is relatively simple, just click and you're online. Let's keep it that way.

Would you still think abolishing net neutrality is a good idea if your ISP decided to throttle down the speed of simviation.com downloads? Or your ISP started posting a surcharge on your Internet bill because they detected that you download files? Sad fact is, most people who oppose net neutrality don't understand what it is or why it's been one of the greatest working concepts of the Internet. Add corporate and political spin to muddle the facts, and here we are.

A byte is a byte, and AT&T, Comcast, all the other monopolistic ISPs should not charge me more for that byte because it originated from Netflix or Hulu or iTunes or wherever. The ISPs shouldn't manipulate the speed that byte travels across the Internet because it came from Netflix or Hulu or iTunes or from a source they consider to be a competitor.

The big corporations want to destroy the existing concept of net neutrality in the USA so they can start charging and manipulating Internet service based on content, and that's just wrong. They want, to use corporate-speak that I abhor, to "monetize" the Internet in new ways.

I know many people who for years have not been able to get decent Internet service. Why? Because of where they live, and that's wrong, too. The so-called "free market" fails there because the ISPs calculate they won't make enough profit per user in those underserved areas. Internet service should be regulated as a common carrier because now it's just as important as land-line telephone service once was in the past.

I want net neutrality preserved, and I'm pleased the FCC is finally proposing these needed regulations. Otherwise, I know the ISPs will give me no choice but to pay more for the same service, more likely charge more for less, maybe not right away but as soon as they can. Only regulation can curb corporate greed, history shows again and again.

From theopeninter.net:

"Network neutrality is the idea that your cellular, cable, or phone internet connection should treat all websites and services the same. Big companies like AT&T, Verizon, and Comcast want to treat them differently so they can charge you more depending on what you use.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is currently debating legislation to define limits for internet service providers (ISPs). The hope is that they will keep the internet open and prevent companies from discriminating against different kinds of websites and services."

Even better would be to force ISP divestiture of content-production businesses, just like the big movie studios had to divest ownership of movie theater chains way back when. But that's a different issue.

All Good points ! :P

"All we need are Internet charges looking like our phone bills" spoken correctly.

not to mention our Electric Bills, as to all the local city charges and state charges.

I pay $10.00 dollars just for being a customer of the electric company and, I'm Taxed on top of that 10.00 ????

and I'm paying a "user Fee" just for using electricity, I'd have to go look to see how much that is, but it too is in the dollars, and not cents and Taxed on top of that amount too !

then theres the "Transportation Sur Charge" yet on top of all this

the the "City Franchise Fee" which is $12.00 dollars a month, taxed on top of that too,, Franchise Fee ????? Really !!!!

then the City Taxes and state Taxes on top of that,, and then the actual "Useage Bill" for the amount of Electricity I supposedly use ???

with all the electric rate hikes thru the years I'm paying $between $220.00 a month to $270.00 a month for Electricity and I live by myself no kids, no woman, no dog, no cat , NO Alligator, no Sharks, skunks, or other critters :shifty:

and another rate increase will take effect in September of 2015 they say by 12.00 more a month.

Already heard and theres been complaints that COMCAST who also purchased Time Warner cable has, or is attempting to Throttle customers internet useage.

So, I suppose I can look forward to Simviation and other sites coming up like DIAL-UP here shortly , slowwwwwww and downloads will take days instead of minutes, because someone at the cable company has decided that Simviation and other sites don't spend any money on advertising, so they aren't that important and can reside on that back burner in the SLOW section.

then I wonder how all this will translate into any ON - LINE game playing, rather thru simulators or thru those X Box / Play station consoles with users from all over, will that be throttled and eventually come to an end ???? become a thing of the past ???

Dunno' none of it sounds good to me tho.

its as if their attempting to make the internet only for the rich and for the government and the rest of us will no longer be able to use the internet and share information or read the news about some politician in the latest scandal , they don't want us knowing or communicating with each other, they figure what we don't know won't hurt us ????

the more they can keep you in the dark the better.

have to wonder is Kim Jong Un, involved in any of this ???? :( :o

Breaking News out of the Western United States :

Internet Severed in Arizona :o

Story : http://www.cbsnews.com/news/arizona-internet-phone-lines-centurylink-fiber-optic-line-cut-vandalism/

People across northern Arizona couldn't use the Internet, their cellphones or landlines for several hours Wednesday after someone vandalized a fiber-optic line that brings communications to a large part of the state, officials said.

Businesses couldn't process credit card transactions, ATMs didn't function, law enforcement databases were unavailable, and even weather reports were affected in an area stretching from north of Phoenix to Flagstaff, about 100 miles away.

distraught students were nearly in tears when he said nothing could be done to restore their Internet connection.

Many students needed to get online to finish school assignments

Kate Hance and Jessie Hutchison stopped at a Wells Fargo ATM to get cash because an ice cream shop couldn't take credit cards without a data connection. They left empty-handed because the outage also put cash machines out of service.

Mark Goldstein, secretary for the Arizona Telecommunications and Information Council, said Century Link's cable likely has bundles of fibers that can be leased to multiple service providers. If the line follows only one direction with no alternative paths to reroute service, then any damage to the line will wreak havoc.

Thanks for that, Jet!....

I have been searching the Internet for that report the whole day, to add it to this post, after reading all about it earlier in the week!

It shows just how many folks rely on the Internet now for all sorts of different reasons!

Its easy to see how a terrorist could bring large parts of the country to a standstill just by cutting a cable and shutting down the Internet!!

Putting some mediocre, draft dodging actor up against that is just a lesson in futility. Good thing we don't talk politics here, or your ass would stay chapped.

LoL. Only if you promise you and your cute little strawman will still be here to take your comeuppance. I'm putting a note on my Google calendar right now. "Remind Webb why FDR won four terms as POTUS." ;)

Mine is the $69.99 plan. I may add a VOIP line sometime this next year so I have a TN local number.

This is the going rate on that service. If I get one of the plans, it'll be the $104 Premium, I expect.
Now we got our baseline.
Tick tock.

FDR? It's amazing how much people believe, and how little they know. :(

And, unfortunately, belief will always triumph over knowledge.

FDR. Greatest POTUS in history. What I know is that when he died three years ago, my grandad still called an empty pocket turned inside out a "Hoover Flag". What I know is about the poverty that was the post-Resconstruction American South until FDR dragged them out of it, 75 years along. I know about it from people who lived it. In the place I live now, doing the job I do now, on the same ground I do it on now.

I know that the neo-proto-fascists hate FDR as much as their fascist-apologist forebearers did. Nothing makes me happier than smacking down their futile attempts at history revision. :D

But I'm sure you don't BELIEVE any of that, and like you said, "belief will always triumph over knowledge".

Anyway, better to keep flying. THAT, we can agree on. :D
