Now I know why...

Postby Flying Trucker » Tue Feb 17, 2015 8:09 am

Goodly morning all... <<q

Now I know why I built a hangar and turned one of the barns into a hangar at the old homestead...and the Old Girl did not think I was that smart...

This past weekend holiday weekend was bitterly cold.

I decided to meet some Old Retired Rocking Chair Flying Geezers Saturday morning at 08:00Hrs. at the bugsmasher field while the Old Girl went on to the old homestead to see the daughter in law and grandchildren. Our son is away flying until the end of March.

The outside temperature was minus twenty-nine (29) degrees Celsius with a wind chill of minus thirty-six (36) degrees Celsius. Not the coldest of days this year but cold enough when you are outside for several hours at a stretch.

One of the lads was on the tractor grooming the snow covered grass strip. Oh and by the way, the snow is piled about six feet high along the roads here at the bugsmasher field.
Not bad since we never got snow until February this year, it rained most of the first part of winter.

My first two hours was spent trying to start a Cessna 140, we even had to remove the spark plugs...got her going eventually but I decided to spend the next hour inside the club house and not go flying.

What...I must be getting over the hill...turn down a flight over the beautiful winter landscape :?:

No it was the bottle of RUM that enticed me to go inside and stand near the wood stove...

The dozen of us finally managed to get seven aircraft into the air, snow was banked much too high for my liking, a snow blower would be required to clear a path to free the other aircraft from their snowed in locations.

Naturally the conversations turned to why not build more hangars...it all comes down to money and time...not sure if anything at all came out of our morning conversation on hangars as we were outside again to clear the snow away from some of the clubhouse windows. No windows were broken.

Sunday was spent doing much of the same thing...I did manage a hours flight with a friend in a Cessna 172 and quality time was spent chewing the rag around the wood stove in the club house.

The Holiday Monday was partially spent at the old homestead where our grandchildren already had the snow covered grass strips groomed, they even had a landing area on the frozen river. No problems with their aircraft and the C185 performed flawlessly on wheel/skis.

The Old Girl preferred to stay inside and bake pies, I thought that strange, not to go flying but perhaps the cold is taking it's effect on her more so than on me.

Well home again and I have some time on my hands, perhaps a simulated flight is in order :?:

Enjoy the Winter folks...we do...
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Doug. We're just have to send you a digital camera. :D

And standing around a warm stove in a hanger eating pie while I wait for you to bring back the pictures makes a lot of sense to me.

Good morning again... <<s

All the years I spent flying military and commercial aircraft I never carried a camera. Could not be bothered with them, not even at an airshow...

If I have seen it I have seen it...

The Old Girl took plenty of pictures when the children and grandchildren were growing up and she takes pictures of the great grandchildren now.

I was away most of the time so not in many of the family pictures, however we usually have a family portrait taken when there is a new addition to the family.
Just getting better looking with every portrait I am... :o

The Old Girl kept a throw away Kodak camera in the glove box but it was so old I threw it out, scared it would blow up one day and catch fire...

Never did like my picture being taken, don't know why but never did. Perhaps if you want to see what I look like it might still be on the Post Office wall...

I am in a lot of videos taken at the bugsmasher field functions...I am the only one it seems is working... :naughty:  :violin:

Its a funny old do....

....but even though owning all different sorts of cameras over the years, I rarely/never think to carry one with me to take pictures!

Even though I always carry a "Mobile Phone" with me, (always switched off so as not to annoy anyone!), in case of a breakdown on my Motor Bike, to call the breakdown Service, I never think to use it as a Camera!
I suspect Folks carry cameras with them because they are photography enthusiasts!
I have probably missed all sorts of interesting shots over the years.....but...hey-ho..!

Even in the Flight Sims, I am more interested in looking at the scenery as it passes by, rather than pausing to take Pictures (Screen-Shots) of it!

Thanks for the reply Paul, guess I am a bit like you with carrying a camera...

I never used to have to make a written list when I went shopping for the Old Girl, now if she does not write it down and specifically what Brand she wants, I just do not remember to get it.

She gives me a list and then tells me I buy more than what is on the list...
Not that I like shopping but if I see something it gets purchased. At one point we had fourteen (14) pounds of butter in the freezer, all salted and she only buys unsalted butter... :o

Well got to get going...shucks now I have to go and ask the Old Girl where I am going... :violin:

Remembering important things.... ;) ....

Shopping list.

During each day, I carefully examine my larder, refrigerator, vegetable basket, (wine cellar), etc, and make notes on a piece of paper of anything and everything that I am getting short of, as the day progresses.

That way, when I go shopping at the Supermarket, I only purchase what is on my list, knowing that I am not going to run out of important things at home.

Shopping is over in record time, and I have got everything I need!

I love Shopping Lists..... ...!

...if its not on my shopping list, then its unnecessary!.... ...!

Paul.... ...!

I make a careful note where each of my bedroom slippers are, before I get into bed each night.

Servants, (eg: wives, etc), demand things which are not on my shopping list....
