Almost 12 years now...

...since I joined. Sometimes I've been gone for a long time. Like now.

During the last 1½ years I've moved to a new city, got myself a new job, and just trying to establish my life in this new part of the country. Well that takes time. Time I had to take from the simming. But I'm sorta back now.

One sim-related thing that happend was I joined a local flying museum, specializing on airworthy veteran aircrafts and professional-level flight simulators, and It's a blast! Working with old aircrafts, guiding visitors, building and flying huge simulators. I'm quite happy right now. My life is back on track.

So yea, everything is looking bright, and flighsim is slowly coming back into my life. Here is a sneak-peak of one of the sims we are working on, that is now flyable, but not yet ready and open for public sessions. Its all working, only thing missing now is the overhead panel that is not fully connected and the housing for the entire sim. Right now running on a single projector, but it will be fully enclosed with three projectors and be a complete cockpit.

Other sims we have are DC-10, Convair Metropolitan and two versions of the SAAB Draken. All of the sims are fully functional and made from real cockpits.

I hope I will have time to become active again in the world of sim, and ofc here on SimV.

I've missed this place...

Probably the reason being, Matt...
Many of us started with; "The Strip" in 1998, the original Simviation (I remember signing the visitor's book!), but over the years the Forums have been upgraded, and some of us have had to sign in again on the later Forums, the biggest change I recall being in January 2002, when we all had to rejoin again!

http://simviation.com//thestrip/flightsimdownload.htm

I've been bursting my brain trying the remember the "name" of the old Forum, following "The Strip", before 2002!.... ...YABB?

...and some of the original Members...many still going strong today!...>>> http://simviation.com/fssimviation.htm

A blast from the distant past, long, long ago, fond memories, when I changed from my Flight Unlimited II-III/Fly!/Pro Pilot 2, etc...to Microsoft FS '98!

We were all very much younger then!....A long time ago...In a Galaxy far, far away!... :o ...!

Paul.... :D ...!

P.S...and I still have fun with my Flight Unlimited II and Pro Pilot 2....Nostalgia!.... :D ...!

P.P.S...I often wonder how one of our old, original Chums, (a young Lad at the time); Andrew Esslebach (andrew e, "Nice Pic!"), is faring now?

God I remember those days Paul! No one can ever imagine the amount of time that went into this site from then until things got a little easier when we went to a database system - when folk would upload their own files. I lost my house & relationship to create this site. Regrets? None. Amazed anyone used 'the Strip'! :D .. They did though & it followed years of trying to provide enough bandwidth. & I remember Doug Attrell (Hagar) being around a lot solving this and that. Jeezus .... no one will ever know the stress simviation caused. But I think it brings fun to many FS'ers now.
There's a saying I can never get out of my head in life. I wish I knew who 1st said it. 'You only regret the things you didn't do'
(I'm doing another different site now for my other passion in life - cars - & up to my ears in debt ........... and it may not work!! )

What a flashback! Thanks for posting.

I was 14 when I joined, after I had downloaded my first ever add-on, here from SimV.

Time flies when you're having fun. It's about 23 years since I first dabbled with a flightsim, and about 20 since my first attack with FS5.1! It's odd to think in those days the average aircraft download (after having persuaded the parents to by Flightshop for me) was about 50kb, with the mega downloads being about 500kb! Then things started getting animated and the world was in revolution (props/gear/flaps - who remembers Alain L'Homme and his wonderful Spitfires and Mustangs - the first add on aircraft with spinning props and animated gear I had were his Mk XVI Spitfire and Jampin' Jacques/BBD Mustang - which are on this site!). I used this site a lot but didn't engage in the forum until 2003 IIRC!

Anyway, as I said, time flies... <<v

@ roster, Foz: I've never supplied my photo so I was never in the Px but there have been others that were directed, or have drifted, away. There was once a Heretic in the Px. A frequent poster back then was another Andrew who, if he continued to his contended endeavor, may now be a sky pilot, if not a Flt Lieutenant...

Its a funny old do, but in a lifetime, I have accumulated more "invisible friends" on the Simviation Forums, than ever I have in real life!

Northern European society is very insular with regards to its people, so most of my "Fun Chums" have come from the USA, who are more eager to chat and laugh about almost everything!
We have spent many hours conversing on the Forum and during live Multiplayer Chat excursions!
Each morning when I wake up and switch on my computer, I search for more snippets of interest, and the usual spot of humour to brighten my day...which it always does!
I am a member of a number of different Flight Sim, etc, Forums, over a number of years, since the old dial-up-Internet mid 1990's, but it is a fact that only "Simviation" contains a group of closely knit folks who are more than willing and able to help, advise, and have fun with each other every day, in whatever county they come from.
Its a real pleasure to meet, and converse with these folks every day!

...and long may it continue!... ...!

Paul.... :D ...!

And I'm still here Pete - although I like to remain in the background nowadays. They were good times. 8-)

When it comes to having a Chat, etc, its always worth remembering the different Time Zones around the World, when its possible that many of us will still be fast asleep in our beds, cuddling our Teddy Bears, (like I do).... ...!
For that reason I have installed in my Firefox/Pale Moon Browser; "Fox Clocks" add-on*, which displays the list of times of my favourite Time Zones around the World, at the bottom of my Browser:
USA...
Eastern Time.
Central Time.
Mountain Time.
Pacific Time.
New Zealand Time.
...and of course...
UK/GMT Time!
That way I know who is still in bed...(with Teddy?)...and who is up and about!
(Vital for Multiplayer activities!)

Paul...Sometimes awake... ;) ....!
