Nostalgia

Postby Anthindelahunt » Sun Nov 16, 2014 8:55 pm

Well guys, with Dougs screenshots and Take the test, has
brought back so many memories for me. So far all the good
ones. Makes me sad though,as those golden days are gone.

I know it is an old cliche but life was a lot simpler then, even
with the Cold War at the back of our minds.

This site is something special as it allows a wide range of topics.

Thanks.

I'm not too sure that Leave it to Beaver was well known over on the other side, but as a '50s kid I describe Leave it to Beaver as reality TV back then.

No need to mention what passes for entertainment on todays TV.

Yes,I remember leave it to Beaver

Dirtiest line ever allowed by the censors on TV: "Ward, you were pretty hard on the Beaver last night...."

Sorry to all, I couldn't resist... ;) :violin:

And yes, I remembered all of it, and th stuff Anthin came up with too...
Drat, beat me to Dragnet by THIS much ><!
Star Trek, Daisy BB Guns, a slingshot in every boy's back pocket, Penny Loafers with a penny tucked in, Johnathan Winters, the Rat Pack (was Sinatra really "connected"??? who knows? besides Nancy that is), Blue Hawaii, "Is this trip REALLY necessary?", Victory Gardens, GI Joe

It goes on and on...
And not having all the idiotic over-protection: I never, ever wore a bike helmet, our school playground equipment was steel bars welded together over redwood chips, or sand, if a kid came home from school clean (gasp!), especially the boys, there was something very wrong! Nowadays they send a kid to Decon Level 1 if they see a him (her) pick anything up from the ground.
Heck, I broke my arm chasing a guy to have a fight, reached out to grab him and tripped over the pointy toe of my cowboy boot. Brought my arm down on his hardened heel. Missed him by THAT much! No one even noticed till later that afternoon!

Anyway, Happy memories and fair weather to all!
Pat☺

Hey Phantom. Remember these.

Bourban Street Beat,Yancy Derringer, law of the Plainsman, have Gun Will Travel,Daniel Boon and Davey
Crockett.

Yes I had a coonskin hat. Artificial, but Hey.

Living down here in Australia, nobody knows about this stuff. You have to
be brought up in the USA or Canada to understand. But as a little kid in Ireland
before we emmigrated to Canada,Roy Rogers was the big thing. I still have a
Roy Rogers cap from the beginning of the fifties.

I wish some brainhead would build a time machine to travel back. The best times,
not to mention all those incredible Aircraft.

Holy Cow Batman!

I think there was probably only two I don't remember.
We gat the odd one here now and again. MASH and Happy
Days. A couple of years back, they put on a few episodes of
77 Sunset Strip.

Thanks for the memories.

I'll add to Jim's list with a couple...

How The West Was Won - There isn't a Lead Character on TV today that has the stones Zebulon Macahan had.

and

Airwolf - Even after 30 years, you'd be hard pressed to find anything comparable to 'The Lady'.

I'm also sticking one recent TV Series into the mix... the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica. No cute kids, sappy love stories or mechanical puppy dogs here; probably one of the darkest and most brutal shows of the past decade.

If you've not seen it before... it isn't the Battlestar of your youth.

RIP Glen Larson.

To get back to Phantom.

What about White Bucks shoes and Blue desert boots!
White bucks I think were started by Pat Boone. Had to whiten them up
every day with an applicator liquid.

A lot of old shows are available on Hulu (which has geographic restrictions) and archive.org (which I believe has no geographic restrictions).

Fred and Barney relax with a Winston
