Thanks for that, Steve!.... ;) ...!

Very interesting for me, as I get the daily California news via the Kron4 news site E-Mailed to me, with my interest in exploring the State, watching the regular wildfires, and observing the serious drought problems, etc, etc...
I regularly Sim-fly over those areas, using Google Sat Maps for reference.

Saved the link.

More and more folks demanding more and more water, together with dry conditions!
http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-m ... story.html
Water reserves are dwindling at an alarming rate!
Lake Orville Dam feeds water to the Sacramento River, via Feather River, and also shares water with the San Joaquin Valley (Central Valley) which is also increasingly suffering with drought.
Enormous amount of water used to irrigate crops downstream!

Notice all those curious "Crop Circles" that you see in the Flight Sims?... ;) ....>>> http://www.arb.ca.gov/fuels/lcfs/workgr ... hanson.pdf
Lots of water lost.

Thanks for the post Steve. I showed the photos to my wife who's originally from Rio Vista (on the Sacramento) and she was shocked too. Absolutely amazing!

If it moves and it's not supposed to - use the Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move and it's supposed to - use the WD40.

Very interesting Hawk... :) ...!

Rio Vista, close to the epicentre of the earthquake, and a regular stopping off point at the Airfield during my many Sim Flights in Flight Unlimited II and all the following Microsoft Flight Sims!

Her father was the City Manager back in the early to mid '60's. We've gone back there a couple of times and my sister-in-law, who lives in Sacramento, visits old classmates there quite often. As you make a long, straight in approach to runway 32 you almost pass over the old airport by the river.

WOWZERS!.....
I am intrigued Hawk, with your reference to the; "old airport by the river"!

I have just Google Street Mapped Rio Vista, and spotted what is probably the remains of the old airport, now called "Rio Vista Business Park Storm Basin", and "Norman Repanich Grove", very close to the river.

I wonder if was closed due to occasional flooding from the Sacramento River?

I love these snippets of info about closed and abandoned airfields, similar to Hamilton AFB and Alameda NAS in the 'Frisco Bay area. Both of them now industrial estates!
Lots of them in California, which I often search out!

http://www.airfields-freeman.com/CA/Airfields_CA.htm

Many thanks for the news update Hawk!

Hey Paul, I found Rio Vista in your reference (http://www.airfields-freeman.com/CA/Airfields_CA.htm). It's in the "Southwestern Sacramento area" section listed as "Original Rio Vista Airport." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rio_Vista,_California has some interesting info about the town also though no mention of the original airport.

Craig Breedlove, five-time world land speed record holder, lives and has an engineering facility in the city. <-----Didn't know that! :o
