Thanks for the link, Dave!

As you said, Dave, we experienced a similar, devastating riot here in 2011...>>> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_England_riots

It only takes one shooting, to spark off an excuse for a riot!

Nothing new, wherever you go!

Paul....Always interested in World news.

News Links showing Damage to the city of Saint Louis Missouri USA

kinda taken back, by all this this day age, how all that Looting and Stealing was in "Honor" of the kid that died, regardless of the circumstances, how did any of this "Honor" anything !!!!

DAMAGE LINK : http://www.ksdk.com/picture-gallery/news/crime/2014/08/11/photos-ferguson-riot-damage/13885193/

Pictured below , that was a well known Corporate Convience Store, that is well operated by that company in this region, as they have a few hundred stores in this region. called the Quik Trip Corporation , or QT for short, their home office is based here where I live in Kansas City.

In all, they "Looted and Stole" merchandise and broke out all the windows at :

WAL-MART store, AUTO ZONE auto parts store - an African American Hair salon for hair care products, A Restraunt, and an entire city block of other busineeses as well.

Back in May 1980, right when Mt St Helens blew, we had a similar incident here in Miami that sparked riots and unrest, very serious stuff, the city shut down for about 3 days. I remember going to a movie with some friends the 1st night, after we got inside they told us the movie was canceled. Took a quick ride around on maybe night 2, streets were deserted.

I think something like 18 people were killed during the riots. The area in which the riots occurred were contained by the police, no one let in or out. My area and surrounding was OK, many miles away from the riot area. Very nasty business.

The incident was police chasing a motorcylist who was speeding and had traffic citations priors. He was driving with a suspended license. Four officers were later indicted on manslaughter charges due to beating the perp. The trial took place in Tampa, with an all male, all white jury. The riots followed the acquittal of all 4 officers.

Wikipedia has described the Miami 1980 riots as "one of the worst race riots in United States history."

Wikipedia also states "The murder weapon was not identified because of inconsistent witness testimonies" as being the reason for the acquittal.

I'm no apologist for this kind of behaviour, it damages everyone.

I guess most of us are lucky to be living in a system that works (some of the time) for us......I'm seriously glad that I'm not part of a racial minority and poor because I don't know if I've got what it takes to overcome those obstacles.

.....the hard core rioters have a "nothing to lose" attitude which, if you're an innocent bystander, is bloody scary........but, given hindsight, a little calm thought and the benefit of distance a "nothing to lose" attitude becomes just a little bit tragic.

The real problem seems to be the Police. They have a bad attitude over the use of firearms. The "public" (note the use of quotes) then take the opportunity to over react and demonstrate their disapproval towards authority by rioting and looting. Let's address the root cause and not use firearms against unarmed miscreants. Surely the Police are above being provoked into lights and siren chases which lift their adrenal levels to the point of slaughter?

Back in the day when your mouth over rode your common sense the cop wouldn't pull out his gun. He'd take out his night stick and whack you hard on your calf muscle.
That got your attention! And if you had a brain in your head that's all it took to realize it was time to quit.

An Aircraft Mechanic only needs two tools, Duct Tape and WD40.
If it moves and it's not supposed to - use the Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move and it's supposed to - use the WD40.

I must admit to addiction to the American TV "Reality Channel" with the program; "Cops" and "Cops Reloaded", and it sometimes surprises me to observe the terrific adrenalin rush experienced by the packs of Cops viscously attacking the person on the ground that they have just caught after a chase which has obviously annoyed them, from the sound of their raised, excited voices.
They appear to take great enjoyment in demonstrating their physical strength...under the protection of; "The Law"?

It is even possible to see them using their Taser Guns directly onto the subjects body whilst they are on the ground, to subdue them...which is illegal under US Law.
I would have imagined the the Police would be trained NOT to act in this way?

Failed bully-boys/girls at school....I sometimes ask myself?

Cops with shaven, polished heads, and tattoos!... ....!

Paul.

A pleasant Policeman/Woman with a simple sense of humour is as rare as Hen's teeth.... ;) ...!

THAT is Police Brutality!!!

And I know several people for whom it worked out right, back in the '60s.

The 14/15 year old friend of my brother was sitting on a curb smoking a joint.

A cop pulled over, got out of his car, and tapped the stoned kid lightly on his shoulder.

After a quick search turned up two joints worth, the officer asked the kid if he'd rather go to the station where they'd call is parents, or toss the pot down the drain and get a rap on the head.

The kid took the second choice. He laughed later at how lightly the cop hit him.

But he never did it again. At least not publicly.
