Couple of questions...

Postby Flying Trucker » Tue Jun 24, 2014 6:39 pm

Good evening all... <<s

Just a couple of questions.

(1) When I submit a post and I want to Edit that post I can do it usually right away.
However today I shut the computer off and went back to add some information like Province and Country and I could not find the Edit at the top right side of the
page.
Is there a time limit of some sort for doing and Edit to a post?

(2) I have accumulated several User Names from either typing in the wrong one or for some other reason. This is in the Log In section for the Forums and I would
like to Delete all but the one I use.
I can't seem to Delete these. Is there a reason or something I am doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for any help... ;)
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Doug....

I think you will find, that unfortunately, The Forum program is coded in a way that prevents us from editing or deleting our Posts after a very short time has elapsed.

It has been mentioned many times in the past, as it is rather annoying when one has spotted a silly mistake in the post, and there is no way of editing it!

It regularly applies to me!

Sim V is the only Forum I have come across which has this time limit applied for editing a post.

(Pete is the only one who can alter the way that the Forum works.).

I find the only cure is to Preview the post many times before and after posting, and correct any mistakes before the time runs out...that time is VERY short!!

From experience Paul is correct. There appears to be a brief time limit during which a post can be edited. The Edit option also disappears if you log out of the forum & return. The big advantage of this being that the original topic cannot be removed by the original poster after it has been answered as so often happened on the old forum.*

I can't answer question #2.

Pete would be the best person to answer both questions. He is more likely to notice this topic if it is moved to Site Questions & Feedback.

*Note that as an experiment I edited this reply after Fozzer's second reply was posted. This is indicated by the time I edited it shown in italics below my reply.

I suspect that there is an option in the Sim V Forum Bulletin Board https://www.phpbb.com/ that enables the Webmaster to select certain options in the program, one of which may be to allow a time limit (edit, delete, etc), to be applied, or not.

Tick the box.... ;) ...!

Thanks Paul and Doug for the replies, much appreciated as I was beginning to think it was me and my electronic gizmo at fault...

My old grey matter is not working at 100% like it used to do.

Often I add the location of a simulated flight and usually add the Province and Country along with the airport name.
Kingston Airport, Province of Ontario, Canada for example.

This time I forgot and did not notice the Province and Country were missing, that's is what brought this topic about when I could not find the Edit Button in the top right corner... :violin:

Well gentlemen you have answered my questions...again thanks... ;)

P.S. Hey Old Girl...I keep telling you I am never wrong...it is this electronic gizmo and the program... :shifty:
