Any one esle noticed...?

Has anyone else notice the following...........?

When ever I am reading a website, there is always the compulsory adverts sprinkled though the sites. A lot have videos that auto play. I often open up multiple windows (reading the news for example) and it is not so easy to fine the page with the video to stop it. So I just click the speaker icon lower right of the Windows task bar and mute it. However I have noticed in the last week or so that the mute is somehow being overridden...............? You mute the sound and a second or so it un-mutes itself. It takes a couple of clicks to actually stay muted. Now one could quite rightly ask if it is my computer messing me about, however, I have noticed this on my home computer, the computers at work and my in-laws computer. The only linking factor is they are all using Firefox.........

Anyone got any ideas.....?

Matt

I get the same thing.

Mostly when stacking-up a number of pages in the Task Bar, particularly news pages, U-Tube, etc...

One of the previous pages will suddenly start playing a video in the background!

I just have to go back through the list on the Task Bar, locate the annoying video, and stop it, or mute it!

Its one of those things we occasionally suffer.... ...!

Paul...I try not to suffer...if I can help it.... ...!

Thanks for the replies, I wonder if there is a cure, it is rather annoying.....

Edit....................After asking around via Google, it appears that the latest version of Firefox and Flash player are having some problems working together

Those auto-play ads drive me crazy.

Luckily, before they became common, I bought a relatively cheap speaker system that, aside from sounding good, has one super feature - a remote hockey puck sound controller.

Rather than hitting the mute key, I find this is easier for me.

Mostly it's used to turn up the aircraft engine sounds.

Or some loud '50s/'60s music. :D

If a news web site has auto-load ads, most of the time I'll kill that link.

There will be plenty of other news outlets that'll have the same info.

IF (and this rarely happens) the news item is only on ABC, CBS, NBC, or CNN I'll turn the volume all the way down. Next, I'll reformat the displayed web page so that the CP4P can't be seen.

It appears that this helps:

Go to "about:config" and set

"media.autoplay.enabled"

to "false"

Seems to be working for me....let see how long that lasts.....?

I'm lucky because I'm running an old version of IE and it doesn't support this video warning pops up. So you get a black square that won't work.. Although I know the subject is Firefox.
