My house was wired for electrical back in the early 70's. The scenario is, I only have two wall outlets in my office room. Not enough, Two duplex outlets. I have to use 2 eleven plug splitters. There is the PC and the lady's PC, all the speakers plug in, the security cam monitor, the Ipod charger and the Tab2 charger, cell phone charger, flat screen tv, satelite box, router and a portable home phone.
I think it's time the building codes be reviewed.
How much stuff have you been able to cram into one duplex outlet? I am up to 12 and haven't lost a fuse yet.

go to your breaker box, does the breaker for that room feel warm ?
do the outlets feel warm ?

or to be sure, you can add up the total max wattage of all devices plugged in, divide by 120, this gives your total max amperage.

does this exceed your breaker rating ?

I have four, double 13amp socket outlets, at various places in my living room = total of eight outlets, and even that isn't enough for all the stuff I need to plug in!
So my carpeted floor is also cluttered with multi-socket extensions plugged into these eight sockets!
A bit of a fire hazard, so I always make sure everything is disconnected/unplugged/switched off before I go to bed, or go outside!
In these days of so-called "Wireless connection" via radio signals, I'm surprised that we still suffer from having cables draped all over the place to get connected to "things"!

My house is like a Spiders Web of loose cables, constantly waiting to entrap me!

P.S ..thinking about all these electric sockets and cables.....if the electricity supply fails in the near future, (as it might), my life would be at an end without it!.... ...!

If you are worried about pulling too much amperage through the outlet which I think will have a 15 amp breaker on it you could go to a hardware store and get a power bar with a 10 amp push button breaker on it. Chances are everything on that bar is not pulling max current all at the same time, although keep in mind that chances are all of the outlets in that room are wired together and are running to the same breaker. The only place I know of that has split upper and lower plugs running to seperate breakers are in the kithcen.

Enter the ghost of Nicola Tesla, wandering onstage again...
He was the first and foremeost promoter of "wireless power transission". Have a master Tesla coil in a fairly central location, every house has another in the attic to supply that house...essentially a long range transformer with the secondaries in the houses. Then you can equip each device with a coil of it's own, bingo! Wireless power transmission! All just a matter of the right frequency ranges for longrange transmaission, and the right number of windings for each coil to make the proper voltages.

All denied and quashed by the power companies, for one cannot monitor the usage rate of wireless transmission of power, and therefore figure out how much to overcharge the customers. The government wasn't pleased either....no charges for the power compainies, less taxes for the government to get from us. But look up who owns most of Tesla's patents these days...Circle-Bar-W (Westinghouse) is one of the main owners.

Poor Nicola was a man WAY ahead of his tme, brilliant, and somewhat insane, sadly, and too naieve to protect himeslf from the greed of his bosses...

Thanks for the comments all. Sorry I can't reply more quickly but no internet at work. Fozz, its true, we couldnt have envisioned all the stuff that we have to plug in now. In the earlier days it was a lamp, or a clock, maybe a television if we were lucky enough. You've got a bag of apostrophies, and I just found a bag of commas in the attic.
Pat, Tesla is my favorite underdog and as I understand, he was quite the ladies man. A true genius mixed with a little crazy.
Thanks Tug, I do have all the plugs into a surge protecter with an extra breaker on board. Plus my smoke detectors are all brand new. It would be a rare event if these were all turned on at once.
