Which Death Valley scenery?

Death Valley is one of those places that I just never wanted to go to.

UNTIL I saw the OZx Death Valley.

As much as I like it, I started to wonder, "How good is the one from Blue Sky Scenery?"

Judge for yourself. Just which "Death Valley" do you like best. I like them both.

I don't have a shot of the original FSX/Prepar3d Death Valley. The first shot is with FTX Global.

I spend a lot of time in Death Valley, and Owen's Valley (Cowboy Country)... :D ...!

I suspect that the first FTX Global shot, with Autogen, is the more realistic (and practical, with vegetation, etc)...
.and the other two, I suspect, are "Photographic Scenery".....which I NEVER did like, especially at ground level...where I spend a lot of time!

I prefer the first view.

Paul....With a pet Rattle Snake...and a tumbling Tumble-weed... ...!

Sorry, Low Flying Tumble Weed. :D

Fly into Furnace Creek ! (Death Valley) L06

L06 is my home away from home in Death Valley.

And while the flight sim scenery has nothing like this,

the rest of the scenery is more like the Blue Sky Scenery Death Valley scenery.

For whatever reasons I really like the colors & ruggedness here.

OAM, Who owns the Bellanca Viking in the 3rd photo? Just curious since I worked on them for the last 3 1/2 years of my aviation career here in Alexandria,MN. 3 out of the 4

guys I worked with had been employed at the Bellanca factory which is right here on the field. Sad to say it's pretty much shut down now except for selling parts and some

engineering support.

Haven't got much of a clue other than the link above - Fly into Furnace Creek ! (Death Valley) L06

And with your help I now know the airplanes name.

HANG ON A SEC!

I just recalled this from last year - AviationDB N4201B.

You're welcome! I see 22E is a later model. Both are in nice shape. Here's an interesting feature of the Viking line... it has a WOODEN wing structure with a tubular steel fuselage and tail feathers. We did several complete overhauls while I was working there. Stripped them right down to nothing and built them back up again. One gent named Larry was a true artist with dope & fabric and the interior upholstery. Not to mention his gorgeous paint jobs. An absolute magician.

All the lovely videos in the link had files with the file extension .rm, which required "Real Player" to be installed to play the files.

As it wasn't included in my Windows 8, I downloaded it (successfully) from ...>>> http://www.filehippo.com/download_realplayer.....

..beware there are many "Real Player?" download sites out there which install all sorts of nasty stuff on your computer! (They put loads of virus stuff on my computer, but running Malware Bytes, etc, sorted them all out!).

I can now play all the lovely CAL videos!

Paul....just popped into Santa Paula, (the home of Steve McQueen's Boeing Stearman aircraft).... ...!

Your link doesn't work for me. I always try the developers site first. http://www.real.com

Real Player never had a good reputation. I wouldn't have it on my computer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RealPlayer#Controversies

There are usually alternatives. Real Alternative

..the funny thing was, Doug.... ....

....it was downloading the file from the so-called Developer's (Real Player) site, that was installing all the nasty stuff into my Registry!

I am often suspicious of "Official" sites. They are not always what they claim to be!.... ...!

Ta for the upgrade links, Doug....all the XXX.rm videos now working fine!

...(also got the Classic Version of Windows Media Player!)... :D ...!

Paul..... touring some interesting spots in CAL... ...!

For what it's worth - I've been using VLC media player for a VERY long time.

It's an open source, cross-platform, multimedia player. Get it from the link above, and you shouldn't have any problems.

Aside from playing .rm videos, it's what I use to watch movies on my computer.

You definitely have to watch out when you download a program. Even if the download site is what you would consider a "reputable" site.

One such site, cnet.com, adds so much additional S%^# fertilizer to the download that I'll only use them if there is no other source. And then I Double Double check what I've downloaded.

Paul, you are quite right. That site has some VERY nice/interesting videos.

The quality on some isn't all that great, but the flights ARE.

Thanks for pointing them out to me.

.... :D ....!

I have spent so many years, since Flight Unlimited II + Pro Pilot '99 + FS '98, etc, touring the whole of California, every day, that I know it like the back of my hand now, and its always interesting to compare the REAL flight scenery/photographs with my Sim Flight Scenery in the same (OrbX FTX and UT USA, etc) areas....

...and they are remarkably similar!.... ...!

I never cease to be amazed!

Its a magic place for scenery variation!
