OS Poll

Hello all,

Here I am with another poll! Previously I have done "Web Browser" poll and then a "Search Engine" poll. let everyone here on Simviation know what you favorite Operating System is!!! :D. We all have one. Give reasons why you like it and why you use it or why you would want to use it. Obviously most everyone on here runs some form of Windows. Be specific like Windows XP instead of simply Windows. This is for all platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android,...even a home made one! everything goes!!!)

My personal favorite is Linux Ubuntu (Unity version) simply because you can do whatever you want! If you are a little tech savvy you can figure out how to make it what you want! Obviously FSX won't ever work on it :( but! It is still my all time favorite! Even beating out Stable versions of Windows (like 98, XP, and 7).

Let us all know!

On my tablets I want Andriod because I've had a taste of the Apple and I didn't like it. On her and mine PCs I prefer Windows, mine is still XP and hers is Win 8.1. 8) Both good I suppose..

I use XPSP3 now. I'm more than a bit miffed at Microsoft for forcing me to "upgrade" but I guess I'll have to do it. I would probably use Windows 2000, which was the best OS Microsoft ever made, but it didn't support ClearType.

I've tried a couple of Linux distros but they always have at least one critical inherent failure. The last one I tried didn't support ClearType and it always has problems with either printer drivers or wireless drivers.

The support for Linux is pretty much limited to forums, where the advice is typically "hey, dumbass, just write your own driver".

Aaah, Sinclair Basic.......the joy of making a dot move across the screen using INKEY$. Had some good games on the spectrum, Boulder Dash being a favourite. Hungry Horace (being a derivative of PacMan) was also quite good fun.

Currently getting to grips with Win7, I'm still not sure about it, too much going on behind the scenes.

The operating system I suppose I got along with best with was Win 98se, again, ancient history.

.... :D ... :D ...!

Still got all the 'Speccy 48k Hardware and Software, G.K....crates of it!... ;) ....
...but running it all now with payware; "Spectaculator" :....>>> http://www.spectaculator.com/ so much fun and enjoyment!

You mentioned Win 98SE.....a fantastic Operating System...well worth running the later Windows in "FS '98SE Mode"!
A bit slow, but it had all we needed!
All the later versions gradually contained all the useless stuff we didn't need!

All the useless stuff in Win 8.1 is driving me mad!
(..but its fast!)...

Paul...aka: Jet Set Willy.... ..!

Great discussion idea!

I liked Win98se, you could do loads of stuff to that without breaking it as easily as 95 and 98.

When I went over to XP, I wasn't sure at first, as everything seemed "hidden away" in comparison, (probably why it was more reliable in my case! )

After a while I learned to love XP and it was probably my favourite so far. I'm currently using Win 7 64 bit and it's not bad, now I'm used to it.

Have used Linux too, Kubuntu is my favourite there, I just like the way it's easy to get new programs.

Hardly used Apple, but it's similar anyway.

Cheers. :D

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.
I think it's a modern and stable OS for FSX and P3D. The sims itself are less stable, independed of what OS is used. What I mind about W7, is the long boot up times and that it wakes up during sleep because of unfindable tasks or network request etc. So I always have to close the Sim and turn off the computer. In fact I have two Win 7/64 systems with the same virus protection and other tools. One boots in 2,5 Minutes, the other in about 5 Minutes. All unecessary programs are removed or delayed on both machines. The faster system is "newer", so that is a bad feature to get longer loading times the older the installation of this OS becomes. I had the opportunity to fix an old XP system from a friend of mine about two years ago. I could hardly remember how this works. There are a lot of improvements between XP and Windows 7. I'd also use a newer OS, if this was made for desktop computers, not for pads.

I was sued by Apple in 1985 for selling clones, almost broke me. I'll never use an Apple anything after that. But I never had 1 single problem with XP SP2. Now I'm into Win 8.1 and love the options, like running your old programs in XP compatibility mode.

Just as an item of interest that pertains to operating systems, a lot of banks in north America would vote for XP.
A quote from an article I read a couple months ago..

>Windows XP is used to run everything from some bank’s internal computers to automated teller machines (ATM). In fact, the Microsoft operating system serves as the backbone for 95% of the ATMs operated in America, Bloomberg reports. So losing Microsoft tech support may translate into heightened security problems for financial institutions. An interagency standards body known as the Federal Financial Financial Institutions Examination Council included this warning in a letter:<

Microsoft has since agreed to extend support for bank systems using XP.. And the rest of us can just stick it up our.. _____.
