...bordering on heartbreaking, as I daily sim-fly around California, (etc), searching for these long-lost and abandoned airfields....>>>

Looking at photographs of them during their golden days, and comparing them to the state they are in now, can be quite upsetting!... :( ...!

Many of them buried under commercial estates, housing estates, farmland, or just abandoned completely!

I spend some time "Wikipedia-ing" them, and Google mapping them, to find all about them, and it can be fascinating!
...blasts from another World, in the distant past!

Paul....in tears....peeking at the sad remains of NASA Crows Landing (NRC) in my Cessna 150, in Cal Central Valley... :( ...!

That's a great website, all States are there. I have traced old Miami airports on that site.

The old Tamiami Airport has been the site of Florida International University for a long time now, and the southern part of it is used for the annual Youth Fair, or whatever it's called these days. The control tower is still intact and has been converted to an office building of some sort. I had the dubious pleasure of having been in it sometime in the past when registering for something to do with FIUniv. If only those walls could talk. I believe that's the only part of the old airport that's left.

We would go there in the 50's sometimes as kids, flying RC's. I guess the airport had been abandoned way back, then.

In a Google Maps you can still see remnants and scars of the old runways.
