Where do YOU fly?

Postby Blaquehardt » Sun Jul 28, 2013 8:22 am

Being from the United States, most of the areas are familiar to me from my days as a trucker. Some of us have never had the chance to visit other countries, and seeing how this site has so many people from all over the world-, I would like to know "where is your favorite place to fly?"
Personally my favorite is Las Vegas either early morning or evening when the lights of the city are the prettiest...
So how about it? Where do YOU fly? <<q

For me, from England, its the wonderful varied countryside of the US Pacific West Coast, from Oregon, through California, and down to San Diago; and across country to Nevada and Arizona!

After 15+ years of Sim Flying it, most every day, and with constant reference to Wikipedia and various maps, I now know it like the back of my hand!

And also I Sim travel it at ground level, in my; "18-wheels-of-steel" big trucks (Peterbilt)...via "Rig-n Roll", "18 WOS Across America", etc, etc.... 8-) ...!

Its nice...flying....and truckin'....."somewhere else"!..... ...!

I often travel "somewhere else", but I always come back to the West Coast!

Canada, often looking for Salmon rivers using a real bushtrain, Pilatus.

Colorado Lakes, mostly starting from KASE, using the only one to fly in that area, DH Beaver float/wheel.

And a lot of fuel ;)

Howdy Blaquehardt!

I too fly out of Vegas (thats where I live) so I practice around the area for real world application. I also like to fly in Washington State as I grew up there (Port Townsend - 0S9). But my favorite hands down is Alaska. It has the most challenges, dramatic scenery and can accomodate anything from ultralights to big iron - wheel's, ski's or floats. A flight I love to fly is in/out of PADU - Dutch Harbor. Weather can be quite nasty and the runway is short with water at both ends and mountains all around. An example flight I like to do is flying a 757 from Anchorage to Dutch. You have to be relatively light and touch down on the numbers but it can be done!

Here's a couple of "old FS2004 shots" .......... (not trying to take away from your post - for example only)

I pretty much fly in North America, unless it's required by the event (the DC-3 Airways World Rally, for example).

Along with transitioning to and from AK, I also like to fly around Idaho and Utah, but mostly in Colorado. I fly in AK mainly in the backcountry, using primarily bush planes and occasionally a light twin.

The beauty of flt sim is that one can fly where the mood takes us. I'm from VT, and fly the east/west coasts and Colorado. I also enjoy Africa and Australia. Like I said, where ever the mood strikes. When up in the air, location doesn't make that much difference...

What I can't understand when I see some of these pics, is how clear they are. I have been working on this but for the life of me my pictures and the detail on my planes are distorted and blurry. (example) My DC-3Image

Some of the Problem may be the computers Resolution, and what type of Screen your using, as far as Pixel quality with your screen resolution, and what type of screen capture program your using.
Also how you save your screen captures,, rather it be in JPEG format or Bitmap etc.

that all factors in to how good a quality your screen shots will come out.

lastly, where you take your screen shots, meaning location within your flight sim scenery and the angles and how close far away you are from the aircraft.

I use my payware FRAPS program for screen shots and Video. but I've been known to use the Default FSX Screen capture too, that being control V. they still come out decent tho ya have to resize them down in scale because their fairly large.

Paul,

I can just picture you there at your computer...

(please forgive the American slang colloquialisms)

... driving your big rig, 20 minutes out of the TA Truck Stop on I-5. The CB's set to Channel 19, the thermos filled full of that strong black coffee that ol' Muriel's famous for. You take the on ramp to SB I-10, the sound of C.W McCall wailing from the speakers...

"Twas the dark of the Moon
On the 6th of June
In a Kenworth, pullin' logs
Cabover Pete with a reefer on
An' a Jimmy, hauling hogs

We was headed fer bear on I-One Oh
Bout a mile outa Shaky Town
I says Pigpen this here's the Rubber Duck
An' I'm about to put the hammer down..."

Keep the rubber side down, pard... and we'll ketch 'ya on the flip flop!
