To those of you hacked off about gas prices:

Can any of you think of anything that hasn't gone up in price since the day it was released?

You used to be able to buy a brand new car for $3,000.  My parents paid $26,000 for their house.  My wife's grandparents paid $9,000 for theirs.  Things go up in price.  It's been happening since the dawn of time, and it's certainly not going to stop any time soon. ;)
Great edit, Bob.

I agree, but in Belgium prices of basic goods like bread, vegetable and gas for househeating rise much quicker than the income of the population... hence we see a little problem emerging at the horizon....  ::)  :)

Jumps around daily here.  Its truly sad when $1.85 was a great price >:(  Currently every station here has been holding at $2.18 a gallon for the last couple weeks :-/  Saturday it jumped up to $2.28 :o but went back down that night.  Hopefully it will go down cause shelling out $42 every week is adding up.  Unfortunatly in my truck that only gets me 230 miles :-/

As for prices of everything going up...Yes that has been going on for ages...Wouldnt be so bad..But wages have not moved in a long time >:(

Just thinking that a few years ago gas was only $1.15 and now over $2 makes me sick :-/

Oh I disagree...in the early 90s, minimum wage here was $4.25 an hour.  Now it's something like $5.15.  In the early 90s, gas was in the $1.20-$1.30 range.  Now it's in the area of $2.20.  Seems to me they've both risen equally.  And I don't know about you guys, but it makes me cringe to think about my early 90s salary.   ;)

The last time I visted the US was 1996, the year of the Atlanta Olympics. The price of gas was then around $1 per gallon, give or take a few depending on where you happened to be. I thought this was extremely low being used to the outrageous prices in the UK. Of course this is a completely different system & most of the price I pay is tax. It's difficult to compare prices since we went metric & 80 pence per litre doesn't sound too bad until you figure that out in gallons. Unless we can find another source of fuel I can't see the situation improving. We will just keep paying more until the oil eventually runs out.

A quote from Ozzy Osbourne in my earlier topic seems approriate.
[quote]DESPITE his millions and his transatlantic lifestyle, Ozzy is astonished at the cost of living in Britain - and feels that the working man is being priced out of the country.

He said: "To be honest, I do not understand how working class man lives here. You've got to buy food for the kids, gotta buy stuff for the house. But the cost is absolutely outrageous.

"It's nuts. I changed $4,000 and I got f***ing

Around here (where we don't have self-serve, I don't know if that affects price much) it is about $2.25 per gallon of 87 octane unleaded.

Averages about $1.95 around here, but definitely varies by chain, location, and state borders. I try to avoid buying gas in NYC!!

Definitely purchase anything you can outside of NY State...hop over a border (there are several) and you'll see just how much of it is in taxes!

Well I just got back from a trip to my university...

2 hours and 20 minutes that I spent going there and back the cheapest I found gas at was:

$2.42

Highest I've seen it here in Ohio, besides the 9/11 scare where everything went up for a day or two...

diesel should go down over the summer as they switch to a different blend. diesel prices are highest in the winter months it seems because they have to use a different mixture to accomidate for the colder temperatures. (so i was told)
