Im one of those people that just eats/drinks whateva, wheneva...and it has not effects! Though im sure that will change as i get older ;D

At the moment i ride 10 miles a day to get to college, and now spend about an hour in my mini gym at my house, mainly on free wieghts...trying to bulk up for the beach this summer ;)

Thing i have realized rescently is that you really have to work out heavily everyday to put the real muscle on, i used to go to the gym like twice or three times a week, and really didnt see much effect...but everyday, wow...!

But yeh Jimbo, swimming is amazing for fitness, i don't think anything can beat it! You work like every musscle in your body, and its way for fun than sitting around in boring gyms! Thing is, it definatley is far more intensive upon the upper body, your legs don't get too heavier work out...and considering they are the largest muscles in your body that isnt a great thing...sooo definatley keep up the other stuff!

And congrats, thats some serious wieght loss...keep it up buddy ;)

Thank you very much mate .. means alot..

Ive lost 2 and a half, and my weights program is in FULL swing. Love it, put alot of toning muscle on which assists the weight loss. I feel so much more confident, i dont step back, and people respect me.

Before i was this big bloke, who everybody loved because it made them feel better about themselves, because i'm big. They have realised, that HAS changed. I feel better than them now, because i know i have developed a heathly habbit, and plan to follow this on - its those that are loosing out. My mate did some serious weight training a year or so back, and its nearly all gone.. Ive got the motivation. I ditched the treadmill, and i'm going to start some aerobic classes etc.. Variety..

All in all, i love it. I aim to have lost an extra stone by mid summer, so, like you Cobra, i'll be "Darrn" the beach, and enjoying myself.

Its a great feeling, and people think you are snobby showing yourself off. NO, ive worked A HELL OF A LOT for this, almost a year by summer, so i'm gonnna get advertising. LOL

Cheers Gents - means the world.

Summer = I plan to buy a bike, and do more hiking, its going to be a fun summer.

You should never get into a habit of working out every day, as your body does need 1/2 rest days a week so you're up to full fitness. Too much at one time could put your body under a lot of stress, especially at first when it isn't used to the work load. I suppose increasing the intensity of the exercise as you go along is the best way to do it.

I'm currently building my fitness up in the hope of joining the RAF, which simply involves weight training 3/4 times a week, and playing five-a-side football on a Friday night. The occasional run will be on the books when I'm in the mood for it.

No offense Tweek, but you are gonna get mashed by the other guys if thats all you do...like i said before, i ride over 10 miles a day, hour a day (at least) in the gym, and run 2 or 3 times a week (*lol i hate running, so boring...). I also play various other sports, like squash for Dorset, footie, rugby, windsurf/wakeboard (in the summer months like everyday!) and bike a hell of a lot. I could go on...but I still struggle against the other RAF applicants at my college!! You will really need to step it up if you want to impress anybody in the forces!

Annnnd, i haven't suddenly started working out...been doing it for years, i've just started to transfer a bit towards the bodybuilding end of the spectrum, as appose to the fitness...

But yeh you are right, to do the same work out shedule everyday would definatley be over training, thats why i work on different muscle groups each day :P

I prefer running over everything else. Used to go to the gym two or three years ago, but I found it way too boring to continue wasting my money on it.

Yes, I'll obviously step up the amount of exercise ASAP, but as I say, you've got to start slow, then build up the amount of work.

As for the basic level of fitness required by the RAF (at least as a pilot), the Pre-Joining Fitness test consists of one 1.5 mile run on a treadmill, which should be completed in a certain amount of time. For a male, aged 17-24, the time limit is 12:11. If you can do that, you've 'impressed' them enough, and you're ready (in terms of physical ability) to join. Of course, the fitter you are, the better your chances of succesfully passing through training. But by no means do you have to turn up looking like a champion body builder in order to get in! ;)

I hate the gym too Heretic, but its fairly fun at home. You can just watch tv/crank up the music...and you don't have to try and show off so no pressure ;D

hmm yeh i agree with you Tweek, you an me seem to be heading for the same goal!! Thing is, it is one huge and very tough competition, and they are clearly gonna pick the fitter guys over the lesser ones...its all about standing out from the rest!

But in all honesty, i would stand a far better chance with the RAF if i stopped wasting my time on this fitness crap and actually did some studying ;D

Both are just as important! Gotta get the required qualifications, and pass all the apititude tests, as well as the fitness test. What fun. ;D
