Oh absolutely.  (And it should be that way.)

But I think there should be (and there may even be) a bit of distinction between taking it off the pole and finding it.

For example, mine was literally frozen in the ice, and some effort was required to free it.  So it had been there a while.  Plus the new one was already on the pole, so it had been replaced.  I would NEVER recommend someone take one off the pole.  That's just insane.

I once found a stop sign frozen somehow in a rink I was playing hockey on up the stret from my house.

So if I get this right... you stole that stopsign AND you've ruined a hockey-ring in the process? I say respect!

LOL...had it been an official rink there's no way I would have done it!

But this was just a sunken area at the end of the street that had filled up with melted snow and re-frozen...it just happened to be the right dimensions to pass as a rink.

They've since filled it in and built houses there.  Bugger.

Just another example of how we tend to go WAY off topic here.  We've gone from who are the Mods here to sex to stealing street signs...

Very interesting...   ;)

Not actually whilst acquiring the sign but very shortly afterwards.
If you ever go to the climbing wall at Brunel University in Uxbridge you'll see the Cairngorms Chairlift sign, we climbers think people should learn to use their legs as a mode of transport ;D
