Saw "Up Periscope" with Kelsey Grammar last night.
I know it doesn't qualify as much of a war movie but it's boody funny.  ;D ;)

Does Carry On Up The Khyber count as a war film? I always loved the line about the foot and mouth regiment.

I watched a video called, 'The Fighting Lady' this weekend. It's a documentary about the Yorktown carrier during WW2, it was quite interesting.

That sounds like it would be worth a watch. I haven't noticed the video, but my local "Blockbuster" store doesn't have much of an assortment of "War" videos.
I'll keep an eye out for it.
I'm going to watch one on Fox this afternoon that I noticed in the program. I don't recall seeing it before. It's called "The Young Lions" with Monty Clift.
I'll let you know what it's like.  ;D ;)

I am not a War Film buff and I am by no means claiming to be.

I think that Wind Talkers was pretty good, it was a change from some others I havfe seen.

Watched 'Young Lions" as I said I would.
A bit long (nearly 3 hrs). But interesting just the same.
Can't be compared to the likes of Private Ryan, Wind Talkers and more modern movies. Different kind of movie also. Dealt more with personal lives and emotions of chosen characters rather than war itself.

Anyway, "Aces High" is on next week. Only seen it once and that was years ago. ;D :D ;)

Enemy at the Gate is bloomin' good. Saw it the other night.
Does anyone remember Who Dares Wins with Lewis Collins? Naff film except for the bit at the end.
In the black and white genere I've always like The Password Is Courage and Ice Cold In Alex, both classics.

I found Enemy at teh gates Naff. the problem is is I have read far to many books so I know the real story to most films I read. And nothing that Zaitzev does in teh film he is reported to have done in the book Stalingrad.

I like Ice cold in Alex though. It was on the telly the other day.

I saw a documetery on either History or Discovery about the sniper conflict at Stalingrad and I have to say, knowing the characters and what happened I thought made the film Enemy at the Gates more enjoyable. I know the story is not correct, but at least I had an idea about who was who. The Russian front was never my strong point when it came to WW2 history.

With the length of this thread, I have just taken some time to see if I would find a mention of "Murphys War" or "Midway"..........no luck....or did I miss it ?.....Starring in Murph's movie, is a Grumman Duck, I believe, but my memory may fail to bring me the correct data.....in Midway, I guess you will remember seeing all sorts of carrier borne and land based Pacific Theatre aircraft, even some trainer re-paints to do the look-a-like of some birds that are no longer with us.......

They were both mentioned, but I think it was in "part 1"  ;).
