One thing about flying for the Coast Guard, you are always flying when the weather is its worst.

As long as you don't do what the local Marine recruiter tried.  I told him I was trying to get in the Air Force to fly jets. He tells me, oh we have those A-10s and F-16s too.  I finally just hung up on him.  With an ASVAB of 93, you get a lot of recruiter calls.  My parents still get some from time to time, and I'm 25 now.

Fozzer you crack me up!

I was at Cal Poly today (Im in pismo beach near it) so I visited the school. Im looking for Aerospace Engineering as my major for a academy or any college that will accept me. Although I dont really think I could get into Cal Poly with a minimum 3.9 GPA and 1300 on SAT. Are there any other colleges with good or moderate Aerospace Engineering or do most all colleges have that?

If you want engineering, I have to recommend mechanical engineering over aerospace engineering.  I did mechanical and a good portion of the curriculum was fluid flows and my elective classes were aerodynamics and an aerodynamics lab (wind tunnel and computer modeling), so you get almost the same material in both, but the job market is much (much, much) more open for mechanical engineers since computers are really taking the place of the aerospace people.  I knew a few people who got degrees in aerospace and astronautics and are now working for Cat, designing giant digging machines - not aerodynamically either. ;)

This mostly goes out the window if you become an officer with a flying job (unless you want to be a test pilot), but it's always good to have a back-up plan. ;)

Well theres something I dint know. My mom was looking at the college books showing me how much they cost so I went and read a aerospace engineering book and its got alot of like stuff consurning how to keep level, speeds on takeoff, how to take off on a propeller airplane..

So they accept more people with mechanical engineering than aersopace eh?
I dint even know that...
Thanks  ;)

Well I wanna get into the Air Force and get pilot lessons. Then after that if I like the Air Force ill stay if Id rather go commercial Ill go commercial. Ill have at least 10 years to think becuase I read if you get pilot lessons from the Air Force then you have to serve 10 years back. I knew pilots could have any degree as long as they had it but I wouldof thought that an aerospace would be better but maybe ill just think about mechanical engineering instead like you did.

I had my heart set on joined the military to fly, but the one thing that I can't do anything about stopped me, they have a max height limit of 6'2 and I'm 6'3 so that ideas out, plus going into my 3 year of Army JROTC I've had enough of drill sergeants. ;D
