I have grown up around guns my whole life and have learned to view them as simply a tool with an intended purpose (and like any tool, with misuse them can be dangerious).

I live with my family and between all of us there are about 30 guns in the house.  Most are owned by my father, many he has picked up over the years and some have been handed down through the family.  I personally own 5 guns and I'm looking to buy a couple more in the next few years.

Here are the guns that I own:
1937 Mauser Rifle, its been sporterized to shoot a 30.06 bullet (instead of an 8mm)
Browning Citori Lightning Over-Under 12 Gauge Shot Gun
Mossberg 20 Gauge Pump Shot Gun
Ruger 10-22 (.22) Semi-Automatic Rifle
A really old 12 Gauge Double Barrell Shot Gun (I've never shot it, its been handed down to me through the family)

I am considering buying a few guns over the next few years.  I might buy a Ruger Mini-14, a Colt .45 (1991 Model), Ruger Mk.II .22 Pistol, and my fathers Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum Pistol.  I plan on buying all 4 of these guns, but I'm not sure when (my car is my extra money spounge at the moment  ::)).

If I were to buy a gun, it would probably be a .303 Enfield Mk.III, there's something about the rifle that seems right - not too pretty, but functional.

Guns or no guns, I can manage with the element of surprise. If the dead-bolt locks or high-voltage electricution system doesn't stop the burglar, then a knife [any knike that's about 6 inches at least] will do just fine. Heck, I don't even need to get close. Knives can be thrown, you know. ;)

Ah, yes the venerable Lee-Enfield (SMLE) Mk III, better known as the Smiley Rifle. Cool weapon and fairly accurate if you don't fix the bayonet....lol.

It's always cracked me up the way the US has gone all frantic about rifles with a bayonet lug....lmao....I can't recall anyone ever being bayoneted to death in the US.

;D

I think that hunters may argue that point and recreational (target) shooters. Guns only kill people when they are pointed at them by other people. My AK has sat in the same spot for 30 years and has never to dated jumped up and attacked anyone.

That and the same thing could be said of cross bows, compound bows, and all forms of bows used for archery. As well as all forms of knives, even a kitchen knife can kill if in the hands of a psycho.

I completely agree, they need to be locked up.  We have a lot of guns, but every one is locked up in a large gun safe and only 2 people (my father and I) know the combonation.  It's his safe and he has never let anyone know the combo other than me, and he didn't tell be until I was 19 (my mom doesn't even know it).

I agree completely, I have been target shooting ever since I was very young, my father thought it was an important skill to learn.

In the end, what I'm saying is an AK-47 is a ****ing ASSAULT RIFLE.  What POSSIBLE purpose could that serve against a home invader?

There's several good reasons you don't order a carpet bombing when the marines could just throw a frag in the room ::)

Keeping a pistol to ward off home invaders is fine, if you know how to use it-keeping an assault rifle within reach is not, under any circumstances, ok.  If you must have one, fine, my best bud has a Chinese assault rifle that was given to him when he was born.  It's locked up, downstairs, and one day he'll bring it to the range-and that should be the only use for assault rifles owned by private citizens.

btw stop throwing around how much training you have and weapon specs that could be gotten off google, each time you do it you're lessening your credibility-I believe you, I don't think you're making anything up, but just for future reference ;)

ps-dunno whether or not you were serious about using the ak on an invader, this post wasnt aimed at you in particular.

ya and if this is gonna get this locked just pm me and I'll remove it :)

Recreational ownership is just fine-I still don't exactly think it's 100% right for your average Joe to have an assault rifle, but I don't see anything wrong with it with safe usage, I know I wouldn't mind firing one every now and then ;D
