All I'm gonna say is that 'Bowling for Columbine' is a great film/documentary, and I recommend it. I, myself, don't feel the responsible enough to own a gun, I don't want the means to kill people which is bad, whatever the reason. People might say that it would help in our war against terrorism, but wouldn't it also make it easier for the terrorists to get guns. And Islam is condemns terrorism and islamic Jihad does not mean holy war. I just can't believe the death rates in canada and America, what was it 11,000 something in america, and 117 or something in canada, die by guns.

[quote]I have a water gun that is very cool and it is made of a nice orange plastic. It only takes me 1 minute to fill it up and when I shoot all the water out of it, I re-fill it again. It is so much fun.

You know what has always bothered me about the gun arguement (not this post, but the gun arguement in general) is that most people who oppose it seem to have minimal to no experience with firearms.

I'm sure that if I slept with a loaded gun under my pillow I would be in severe danger of shooting myself.

Oddly enough Doug a few years back there was a guy who did just that (Darwin award contender), he kept a .357 magnum on his bedside table, and one night someone telephoned him and rather than answer the phone he had the inevitable accident and killed himself ::)

I never liked the thought of someone sleeping with a gun under their pillow-but some people do do it.

I blieve that the police frown upon the carrying of, and use of, of the common catapult...!
(A forked twig, a length of elastic (from sisters knickers), and a small piece of leather to contain the shot, generally a small stone or a hapless snail)... 8)...!

A REALLY deadly weapon when loaded with a ball bearing... :o...!

LOL... ;D...!

Perhaps we should go back to hitting each other over the heads with rocks and living in caves... mind you for one or two of my classes that would be a big step up the evolutionary ladder ;D

All I'm gonna say is that 'Bowling for Columbine' is a great film/documentary, and I recommend it.

Although I believe the film is very ballanced and fair to both sides of the gun argument I don't recommend the film.  The reason for this is because Moore spends 3 hours detailing the gun argument, violence in America, etc and doesn't come to any compelling conclusion.  His answer to "what to do about violence" is "I don't know".  Although the film is full of impressive (if sometimes dubious) research, it does not provide any real insite in to the problem which would allow one to draw a conclusion.  Instead of finding the film of value I simply believe it was a waste of 3 hours of my life and $3.50 in rental fees.

An aside:

...I'm still waiting with open mind for someone to tell me how I'm harming or endangering people...

I think there is a simple answer to this.

Gun in legal hands... used properly and for its intended purpose = GOOD

Gun in Illegal hands... used stupidly and for illegal/improper purposes = BAD

I have experienced both sides of the argument first hand... I am an ex soldier.. and... I have been very close to and almost a victim of the use of Illegal firearms.

When it comes down to it ..... GUNS dont kill ... PEOPLE do.

Theres my 2p's worth.

cheers

Well said Eno, concise and to the point.
How about we have a peeing contest, who can pee the furthest? That would sort the boys from the men ;D I know this has nothing to do with this thread, I just thought it would be fun :P I bet I can pee the furthest as I have a bionic bladder, heck I can write my name in the snow joined-up without using my hands 8)

There was a shooting incident in the centre of Glasgow (Scotland) about 10 years ago.
A guy who had just been dumped by is girlfriend went on the booze ... jumped into his Landrover and drove into Sauchiehall Street,  produced a shotgun and an automatic pistol and let rip injuring several passers by he then turned the shotgun on himself ....... and missed causing some facial injuries but not the intended suicide.
All this happened at 23:30ish when people were moving between the pubs and clubs, so it was a miracle that no one was killed.
My friend and I were in a group of people who were shot at ... a girl on the perifery of the group was grazed on the leg by one shot .... luckily for her it was only a nick.

The guy doing the shooting is now residing in one of Glasgows finest mental institutions indeffinately.

cheers
