Someone said he's in prison for life?
Although I wasnt sure if the Iraqis made that huge of a deal about it.
I know the United States would like those people who had the plan with Obama during the Election months and im sure there in life just for that.

Someone is spreading bull flop. The crime he was charged with carries a maximum sentence of two years.

Yeah I thought it wouldent be life but that's only 2 years? Hm.. I would think maybe 4 or something what would he be charged for? Assault? :-?

He was charged with Disgracing a Diplomat, or something like that.

Makes a change, diplomats as a general rule manage to disgrace themselves ;D

I disagree with the way he has managed a few policies, but I am not in the crowd that believes him a moron.

Latest reports are that the "journalist" has been beaten a bit in custody.
Broken arms, ribs.

Not good.

I am confused though.  He works for an Eqyptian news service.  I wonder if anyone has bothered to confirm if he is truly an Iraqi, or just simply a member of the foreign media that decided to step away from professionalism, and become part of the story.

The guys comments did not refelct any religious statement. They were more anger based on what he has witnessed, and to whom he assigns the blame.

Iraqi allegiances are trickier than your normal Mid_easterner.

Faith->Family/Clan->Tribe->Sect (Shia vs Sunni)->Country.

Iraq is still very tribal. Saddam was a master at playing tribe against eachother to maintain his own stability at their cost.

You car wreck analogy is good, but overall it is more complex than that. Which is why I still wonder if he is Iraqi, or Egyptian, or other.

Another journalist was the first to put him on the floor, and the Iraqi guards are the ones roughing him up. Other journalist immediately apologized for the incident.

Without delving too deep into the politics of it, it is safe to say that not everyone agrees with the man or his choice of expression.

Quite. However, I'm sure there's a lot of relieved people who are glad that he choose the way he did to express his views, rather than the "standard" way. :)

Faith->Family/Clan->Tribe->Sect (Shia vs Sunni)->Country

faith -> family/clan -> race -> tribe -> past political allegiance -> sect -> region/province -> country.
You missed a few ones... some only apply for the expatriates though

I have sat through several classes, briefs and meetings where this matter is discussed, and never did I see the word Race inserted, especially before Tribe, which, would be the same "race" anyway. Ethnicity might be the better word, and I would not place it there. I would place it after Country, after all, they were certainly willing to go to war with Kuwait, but so much in a rush to led the Kurdish region go.

Region and province is irrelevant, tribe trumps this as some tribes and sect cross those boundaries. Those are simply lines on a map. They could not care less.

Political allegiance is another I have not seen, as the head of the tribe has such great influence on this, as evidenced by Sheik's siding joining the "Awakening Counsels" that have had such a dramatic effect.

The Iraqi people [and the US military] owe a great deal to those counsels.

Theres a lot of difference between the north and the rest of the country... Maybe the guys who go to the north get a different briefing, as this one is more fitting for the situation in the center of the country.
