I loved living in a small, secluded town up in Northern Idaho. It has it's advantages and disadvantages. For someone like me who was homeschooled, only had a few friends, and didn't go out much, it was perfect. The small airport was also a very friendly place hang out, and learn to fly. On the other hand we had to drive a bit to get anything. The nearest wallmart, or fast food joint was 45 minutes away.

But now that i've gotten older, i'm looking at moving down to the Coeur D Alene/Spokane area, about 80 or so miles south to go to school and have better jobs. I'll have everything I need within a short drive, and within half an hour of driving, I can still find myself in the middle of a forest...

I also really love where I live now, not Madison, but Wisconsin.

I lived in Madison for two years.  The chain of lakes is pretty cool, especially seeing Mendota and Monona from the capitol.  Though I did want to , I never got to visit Wisconsin Dells.

I used to live in Sun valley, Nevada, and Sahuarita Arizona. Right now i live in Tecumseh, Nebraska.

We moved to Nebraska, because most of our family was there

Now i wish we could live closer to the bigger towns, so we don't have to drive 40 miles to the nearest supermarket.

Ok, you live in Nebraska...So where the heck is Weeping Water, NE...And why do I feel it's the #1 consumer of Depends undergarments.

Since there's so much about driving here...is there *any* city in the US in which you could survive as a cyclist? Or by using public transportation only?

Cars are optional and also quite inconvenient in New York City.

Of course not, but NYC is that unique city that is actually inconvienent to have a car.  Just about every large city has good to great mass transit.  Clicago has the "L" and also commuter trains, L.A. has an efficient bus system along with commuter trains, NYC has a really good subway system.  There's a good transit train system in the northeastern corridore. DC, Baltimore, Phidelphia, etc.

Gotta cut him some slack.  California is practically paradise from the air.  However, things change dramatically when you land.  But then again, as long as you stay away from L.A. and S.F. California is a great experience.

Two of my great delights is following Highway 101 from Seattle to Los Angeles down through Silicon Valley, or Highway 1 from San Francisco to Los Angeles following The Pacific Coast at 1,000 feet AGL...or less... :)...!

I have Sim flown the whole of South California (SoCal) every day from morning 'till night for the past 10 years, with the aid of my highly detailed relief map of the State... ;)...!

I have found the area full of surprises round every corner, with wide-ranging scenery, from Pacific sand, meadows, fruit and wine orchards, lakes, towering mountain ranges, and airfields big and small, with plenty of Navigation Aids dotted around to aid the Pilot.. :)...!

I'm quite sure now that I am more familiar with the Californian terrain than the Folks who actually live there... ;)...!

Remember, "Fozzers California Air Tours" are very popular, with special prices for the Elderly, (Small Children and Dogs not allowed)... ;D...!

Paul... ;)... 8-)...!
Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.

Meh, sounds better than I ever imagined.

I think I couldn't live in a city without public transport.
I'm way too spoilt here in Germany with all the subs, buses, trams and trains.

Having a car is what I would consider being spoiled.

Nah. Every idiot can have a car. And that's about the picture I get from the rest of the road traffic when I'm using the car.

Okay, public transport is not perfect, but you can sleep, read and listen to music when you're using it. Plus, it's mostly considerably faster than going by car. And cheaper.

Oh, did I mention that you can look at chicks while sitting in the bus/sub/tram? ;D
