Will it fly(don't answer too fast)?

If it doesn't fit .. It fits here .. - -

Craig is right and woodlouse.  The conveyor is just spinning the wheels and not actually producing any force to oppose the thrust of the jet engines. ;)

Which is exactly what I said on the first page of this now pointless thread  :P :P :P

It will take off !!! ........... the wheels aren't powered  and therefore the engines aren't driving them. The engines are producing thrust against the air not the conveyer.

Which is where people have a hard time seperating cars from planes in this scenario.

My head is still hurting.

Got it!!! because there is no link between the engine of the plane & the wheels, the conveyor is spinning at the same speed as the planes WHEELS, but not the speed of the plane itself. Right?

Cheers,

TSC.

A plane is standing on a runway that can move (some sort of band conveyer). The plane moves in one direction, while the conveyer moves in the opposite direction. This conveyer has a control system that tracks the plane speed and tunes the speed of the conveyer to be exactly the same (but in opposite direction).

Maybe this should say 'tracks the WHEELS speed'.

Just a thought.

Like I said, unless this scenario is differant to the one I know, I think it is worded wrong. There is supposed to be no suggestion of movement from the conveyer belt. Just that there is a belt with the potential to do so.

And everyone listen to Eno, he knows more than he lets on ;D ;D

All the conveyor does is double the groundspeed ........ it's the airspeed that counts for takeoff.  ;) ;) ;)

There's also no mention of the length of this bleedin' conveyor.

:D

Which then goes back to my "over analysing" it statement. These sorts of things catch people out especially smart people, because they think it requires tons of thought and must be a complex answer when in reality the answer usually ends up being really simple.
