Well, Worthing has been covered by grey cloud since I got up this morning. I don't know if the smoke has finally reached here or if it would have happened anyway. From the colour of the cloud I suspect it's smoke.

Well it is a lot darker today compared to yesterday.  I see dark sky in most places 'cept when i look South.  I hope they get the fire out soon.

Well I'm watching the news now, the fire is still raging, apparently NOBODY expected anything like this on this scale. The firefighter's plan is to create a "Wall of Water" between the burning fuel tanks and the intact fuel tanks. Then they are using water from a nearby lake (as well as supplies) and foam to stop the flames. Slowly, by putting out the smaller flames one by one, the firefighters are slowly making progress.

Nice style of language Saitek  ;D ;D

I think its bad what has happended, imagine the major effect on the environment, and widespread wild life.
Lets hope they get things sorted, and i give my sympothy to the people down south, must be hard and frustrating to realise you cant go back in your home, maybe Doug let a few stay>?  ;)

I feel there is going to be a large investigation into this, to find the cause, and prevent it in future. Better to be safe than sorry.
I can imagine people with asphma will find it quite hard, as i have it my self (Only very mildly - but sometimes gets a' tad worse in winter), and the best thing would be to stay in doors, and wait til its all cleared.

Take advice from the proffesionals about staying in, like i said, better to be safe than sorry.

Cheers.

James ;)

If the article I read in the paper this morning is correct this does not only involve aviation fuel. This complex is a supply depot for all types of fuel including petrol for supply to filling stations in the area. Some of the tanks containing this have not so far been involved & one of the greatest fears is that the fire will spread & these will blow up as well. The last I heard was that the M1 had been closed to traffic again & the firefighters had withdrawn because of the potential danger of another explosion. I don't know how up-to-date this is.

That's very up-to-date; it was on the ITV news about 2 minutes ago.  ;)

Ah, I heard that on BBC Radio 2 news at least 1 hour ago & maybe before then. ;)

They now say the firefighters are going back in.

I certainly hope so; we will need as many firefighters as we can get to control this blaze.

I still think it's amazing that nobody has been killed yet.

Indeed. I don't fancy their job. Ironically I also read in the paper this morning that two of the fire stations they're operating from are due to be closed down & the firefighters based there will lose their jobs. The local hospital the casualties were taken to is also closing its emergency department. ::)
