Well, many archeologists and historians believe that the world might NOT really come to an end. Instead, they believe that the world might undergo dramatic change that can affect human existance. Example: End of an era and the start of a new, maybe a change in global power [first Rome, then Britain, now the US. Who's next in line?], or any other unforeseen circumstances that can also affect human existance.

If the world doesn't come to an end, then one of the above is sure to happen.
