The only upside to the high gas prices is we won't run out of oil so fast. I gotta say though, if a company came in and sold the gas for, say, 1.20, they would make way more money than the over priced stuff. People would come from all around to get gas, and they would be making money I assure.

Luckilly, I have a motor cycle, and soon to have either a chevy cavalier or cobalt, all three have excellent gas milage.

And paz is right, nobody can just refuse to pay gas, and the people that can refuse, do. Big city transit is big bussiness.

How do you figure we won't run out as fast?

I know you've got a number of people who don't need to go out on a daily basis, but there is a whole lot more of us who have to go out every day to go to school, or work, etc....

What I don't like some people like waiters at a restaurant are making very little (2.13 I think is what my sister is making) per hour before tips. If she works an hour and nobody comes in and gives her tips she has efectively wasted her time. What we have now is minimum wage people who waste more in gas getting to work than they get paid for being there. I work with a guy who drives 70 miles every day to get to work. He said the other day if he didn't get any money from his farm down south he would have to move up here to work, or quit....

Just my thoughts, nothing more nothing less.. ;)

I wonder when the US will finally wake up and start building effective mass transit systems instead of adding more and more and more lanes to the highways?

And I wonder when the US zoning laws will get changed so that local communities and neighborhoods where people live might be able to have a business located in them.... so that you don't HAVE to drive all over creation just to get the the mall so that you can buy something?

And I wonder when the US will realize that shipping stuff all the way across this vast country in individual trucks just does not make any sense at so many levels (fuel consumption, pollution, etc.)?

How long will it be before owning a Hummer is a symbol of absurdity and wanton disregard for society, rather than a way sweet "status symbol"?

America is designed around the personal automobile.  We are "trapped" by that fact.  The oil companies know that.
