I agree. Violent games come with a rateing intended to stop kids from getting them, but their parents just buy them anyway. The only thing I like about shooter games is the multi player aspect. Specifically Halo/Halo 2. The more people playing, the better. A freind of mine has a halo party every sunday where we hook up 4 systems, and play with up to 16 people at once. Its a lot of fun to have 4 teams of 4 running around. Also it's not the violence that makes it fun, its the strategy and competition between us.

I agree with Tacit.  But I don't really care what they rate anything.  If a kid see's something say on Grand Theft Auto, and tries to copy what's on the screen,(shooting spree, etc).  He has some serious problems distinguishing from right and wrong.  I just don't see how a kid could see something like that and go do it.  And if the kids too young to know right from wrong, he should own an Xbox/PC or whatever.

In relation the man that died, the longest I have played video games was the day Halo 2 came out.  I got to level...8 i believe.  Only 3-4 hours or so.  And then I didn't really play it much until recently I sat back down a beat it.

My friends and I used to play a lot of video games, (meaning 3 hours a day at most)  But now we hardly play them.  Rarely will we get a chance to play them at all.  So, you COULD say that it's a personal thing.

So in the end I think that there's some serious paranoia about video games and the age at wich kids play them.  But I do believe that some of it is to be taken seriously.  So really, where do you draw the line?

I think the problem is that many people don't interact with their peers like they used to. Far too many rarely, if ever, go out in the real world. They're isolated in their own little worlds. If you're stuck indoors playing computer games or watching TV for hours on end (as many people of all ages seem to be nowadays) this becomes their reality. It's not specifically related to age (as most of us addicted to the flight sims know) but would generally affect younger people more than adults as some have never experienced what I regard as 'normal' lives. I have no idea what the solution is but I'm convinced this is a more serious problem than most people realise.

The problem is, would I really want to interact with them?  I sleep, go to work and interact with my computer.  That's about all I do.  I get more than enough human interaction at work.  The decadence in modern society is so rampant that I just don't like people and television, and I opt to keep to myself.  The day young women and men cover up and pull up their pants, I might be bothered to expose myself to sunlight.

The only reason I spen a lot of tiem online is boredom.  I always look forward to going to the Cadet's to interact with real people and going out with friends for the same reason.  In fact, I went on holiday with 5 of my friends last month...we had a blast and we only watched TV once, to see the season finale of CSI directed by Quentin Tarantino.  We hardly palyed the PS2 we had there either.

Actually, I feel like I'm outgrowing my PS2, cos I never use it anymore.  It just bores me, TBH...

I know you're not referring to me specifically Hagar, but just for the record, I'll say I was educated, work and the like in the public just like most people. ;) But when it comes to leisure time, while most people go to parties I stay home, read and play video games.  I just don't find fun, what most people find to be fun.  Dancing, for instance.  Only did it once, don't intend on doing it again.  Premeditated gyration, I call it.  I try to get along just fine with most people, and as far as I know, most people find me rather agreeable.  I recognize I'm an extreme case (I've never injested more than a shot glass' worth of alcohol, for instance), so I just try keep to myself and not criticize anyone, as I know I don't like to be.

Edit: Simviation's an exception.  The whole point of a forum is debate, so critical statements come with the territory! ::)

Do I spend too much time on the computer....?
...Definately... :o...!

I started in the early 1970's with the Atari 2600..
Progressed onto the Sinclair ZX 80/81/ Spectrum which involved programming games, etc...
The Commodore  64, Amstard CPC 464, Atari 500/1064, Amiga 500/1200, early PC's, etc...
...all  of which involved the depreciation in the use of my legs, eyesight, dubious nocternal activities, etc... :'(...!

The Really Big Advantage...
It protected me from the advances of strange women keen to seperate me from my frustrated virginity, freedom, house, posessions, money, etc... ;)...!

So, it wasn't all bad... ;)... ;)... ;)... ;D...!
LOL...!

Paul.

No, for the record I wasn't referring specifically to you Skorp. I'm glad to hear that you at least go out regularly & interact with real people. I'm sure you see my point though.

I just don't find fun, what most people find to be fun.  Dancing, for instance.  Only did it once, don't intend on doing it again.  Premeditated gyration, I call it.

I was always a bit of an oddball & don't care for parties. Not much of a drinker either although I had my share when I was younger. I was never any good at dancing but I love dance music & watching others enjoy themselves. The obvious answer was to play in the band providing the music. I had a lot of fun, made a lot of good friends & got paid for doing it. You can always find people with similar interests to your own if you take the time to look. This must be better than sitting at home indoors alone. That's all I'm saying.

PS. I also love talking to people. I'll talk to anyone & never judge by appearances. Some of the weirdest looking people have turned out to be really nice when I got to know them. I find eye contact & a nice smile makes all the difference when meeting strangers. Took me a long time to discover that. ;)
