When they call 700+ pages a simple set of rules they need to pull their heads out.

HOLY FREAK'N CRUD!!!!! 700+ pages??

Our US constitution is just -what- a single page?

No pun intended, but the EU has just lost its freak'n mind.

So much for a united friendly europe. ::)

Aye. Instead we have an Europe of wusses who don't want to take a step towards the future and blame the EU for their interior political problems.

-Edit: And I just wonder why my entire other post has been deleted.

I know - can't understand it - but I guess it is rather general than poking at one party etc and it actually has gone ok with no flaming, I'm sure the mods are watching it close though.

It's EU-bashing. That's why it's accepted.  ::)

Nothing like a bit of bashing to pass the time... ;)

When you consider that people like a certain (disgraced - more than once as well I think) British politician who is a close friend of Tony Blair is now an EU commissioner, it puts a large number of people views into perspective. This is probably why (or contributes to) a large number of people on the island just across the way from Calais have very sceptical views of the whole thing...

So you've got one disgraced politician in the comission. Well, he won't be there till the end of time, but rejecting an issue, which is important for the future of the EU just for the sake of one man is simply pathetic.

I don't think that is anyone's reasoning.

I personally won't give my countries rights away anymore to people who don't care for my country and are only interested in their own. The worst thing about the constitution is that it removes the power of the veto in dozens of areas.

If only it was just one man. From what I can see the whole setup is flawed & a hotbed of corruption.

I was saying it demonstrates the possible make up of the EU. Who says he's the only one - if a man of his calibre is there, who says there can't be similar representatives from say France, Germany, Italy.

Personally I also find it hard to be part of a Union where certain governments have interesting reputations where certain areas are concerned (corruption etc). :)

It is now. We've just missed the chance to see what it would be like after the constitution would have been put into service.

What I don't understand is why you would WANT your rights and freedoms established by another nation's constitution, which is essentially what the EC was.

Soverign nations run themselves with their own independent governments.  If that government is incapable of leading the country in the right direction, you've got the right to put new folks in office who can bring the nation in the direction YOU want it to go.

Why would anyone concede "Hey, we're not able to run ourselves, maybe you guys should do it"....
