yes my mum had one, and it almost killed her. No airbags. went head to head with a wall, 4 years ago and still suffering from the injuries now. was a nice car, but after seeing that, there is no way i could own one, plus would bring up bad memories for my mum.

Fair enough. My friend managed to walk away from his accident fortunately because the car slammed into the tree on the passenger side. Still wrote it off though. Took most of the roof off and everything.

If you want a proper suggestion then get a VW Polo. Good economy on fuel. Reliable and cheap on insurance. ;)

I dunno. At a guess I should say 1200 quid. It'll vary with age and condition though of course. Look in the classifieds of the local newspapers and see. ;)

There's a nice Geo Metro for sale in the paper up here if you want a very fashionable and economical luxury vehicle....

Where are you from? Around here the driving test consists of a written test, then 30 days later a trip down a road or two (we don't have 'blocks') with a deputy. No 'automatic-only' restrictions, no driving school, etc.

Sure it's cool to have a nice car, but personally i'd advise buying a real cheap piece of rubbish for the first few months after passing your test, that way if you do happen to have a little crunch (which is more likely in the first few months) then you won't have too worry about it, rather than going AAAHHHHH MY NEW CAR, AAAAAHHHHH MY NEW INSURANCE!!!!!!!!!!

Remember, only use it for a few months then get something better.

I used to have a Toyota MR2 (mk2) but when I had a new engine put in it I got given a really, really crappy (old) Honda Accord 'grandad mobile' to use, I mean, it looked AWFUL. I had it for nearly a week. Funny thing was, it was brilliant fun too drive because I never had to worry about scratching it or crunching it or where I left it

the UK. Our driving standards are a little higher, i think mainly to do with the fact our roads in general are alot tougher to drive on, more traffic. We have things like auto restrictions to stop people causing problems by getting through their test in a auto then buying a manual and stalling at every set of lights.

Well, little cars like that are gonna be a tad on the costly side because they're so good for new drivers. It's the same with the small Peugeots and Renaults. You'll rarely see them for under a grand. If I were you, spend the extra cash. Chances are you'll save in the long run one way or another.

Oh i know they arnt cheap. Its not helped with the fact these hot hatches are so popular either. Thats why i am looking at the Neon. 1998 is pretty new, all the ones i have seen are in good condition, and all cheap. Not good for re-sale but good for now.

Well do as you wish. But check out the relative insurance costs first. Because if the car costs

I cant afford not to pay a little extra for a car. I have no mechanical skills what so ever, so i cant fix a car every time it breaks down, more likely from a cheap older car. It would cost more in the long run that way

True, the only way is to get one cheap off friends if your lucky, then at least you know what the history of the car is, but then you have to be lucky enough to know someone selling a cheap car that runs well.

However, I was talking about really cheap
