I agree that if he was already cuffed, there's no need to zap him.   But I also find it very difficult to believe that part of the story.

Of local note, the lad has gotten himself mixed up with a woman by the name of Alice Green, the local and more militant version of Malcom X.  Even that's probably not doing her justice.  She's historically been on the wrong side of just about EVERYTHING...so I'm sure this will be no exception.
Great edit, Bob.

If you're doing something that causes the cops to tazer you, you deserve it, especially smartass kids.
I totally agree with Scott on this matter, if you're being a punk, you should get zapped.

Gonna have to respectfully disagree there, as that would be a GROSS misuse of force.

(and, if cops went by that rule, I'd be smoldering right now)

I'm kidding, we're not punks, but people think we are :P (hence the intamacy with LMPD)

[quote]Cops the world over seem to have a penchant for over reacting - the school teacher air-rifle thing we just had over here springs to mine... Wonder what Brad (Deputy) thinks? He should know!

I agree with Dep on this one too...if it turns out that the kid was cuffed, completely minding his own business, etc....then sure, let's crucify the cop.  But I'm going on the law of probability.

I'm not as naive as I might seem & I realise there's a lot of little scum-bags out there. If they're causing a real problem then of course they should be dealt with. Even so, this doesn't give anyone the right to shoot them with one of these taser (tazer?) things for no good reason. I can only go by the article Scott quoted but it seems like unnecessary violence to me. If the cop had beaten him with his stick or even clipped him round the ear with his hand he would would probably have been charged with assault. I don't see how one of these things makes it OK especially if he was cuffed at the time.

You can't judge these things without all the facts & this news report is probably biased one way or the other. Not knowing much about how these taser things work I find two statements in this brief report confusing.
Joanne Bishop said, "He was bleeding from the chest. His back was all swollen from these tasers. It was horrible."

Stephen said, "My friend reached over to get his book and the cop told him not to. But the cop grabbed his arm when he reached to go get it, and he shoved him into the table, put cuffs on him, and then proceeded to taser him in the leg."

Now, the way I see it shooting him in the leg wouldn't cause bleeding from his chest or bruising on his back. Either one or both are lying or he was shot more than once.

Sadly in cases like these, you're not going to hear much out of the Police Department.  They pretty much just release a statement either condoning or condemning the officer's actions.   The result is you're only getting one side of the story.  But also keep in mind that those quoted in the story are the kids mom and friend...hardly what I'd call credible, unbiased views...
